Rear Seat Catch Help Please!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The near side rear seat back release catch has stopped working (the black plastic thing in top of seat back).

It's a 2001 Octavia estate, does anyone know how to strip the seat back down to get at it?

I have managed to un-latch the seat using a flat blade but can't work out how to get the catch apart.

It feels like the rod or cable has come off.

Any ideas gratefully recieved!

The rod down from the handle will have snapped off. I recently replaced this on mine and the parts cost...

£2.46

The only problem is changing it, it is a bit of a pig. It's made up of three pieces - the handle (the bit which is broke), the piece that sits in the top of the seat and a third piece which holds the second bit down. I just used brute force and ignorance to remove the broken bits. :D

If you can get the handle piece out you can then see the other two bits. If you go the dealers and get the new bits it will help in getting the other bits out, you'll be able to see how they fit together. You will need to fish out the broken piece from the seat. Taking off the foam won't help as the mechanism is enclosed in metal. I found it easiest to remove the seat from the car and turn it upside down to get the broken bit out.

Fitting the new bits is dead easy, just slot them in and everything should line up. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that.

I will get the part and take it from there, at least when I have the new bits I can see what I don't have to worry about breaking.
