Bluetooth

Featured Replies

Hi all, just looking for some advice. Recently bought a 57 plate vRS PD on low mileage. Car isnt fitted with factory bluetooth prep. Im undecided as to which aftermarket bluetooth kit to fit to the car. Is there any way a system similar to the factory prep can be fitted aftermarket? If not which aftermarket kit fits in the best on the octavia dash? All suggestions welcome! My last car was fitted with a Nokia CK-7W with craddle and bluetooth, I would like a display sceen though to see who is calling etc. when phone is in pocket whilst driving.

What about this

Cheers TorqueDude, that looks like a sweet alternative!

Hi, I have the OEM kit fitted in my Octy vRS, bought in the group buy from Stu and it is a good peice of kit.

But, to be fully functional you really need maxidot and a multi function steering wheel or the Columbus touch screen SatNav.

I also have a Bury CC9060 fitted in the Freelander.

Cost was about £130 which included adaptors for the head unit.

It has a small touch screen and is fully voice activated. You can read text messages, dial contacts, search phonebook all from voice commands.

Display has 3 colour schemes (Green is one of them), has an auto dim mode for night time use.

It reads out aloud who is calling you as well as displaying it on screen, you can either accept or reject the call with voice of touch.

Speech quality is really good, although that also depends on the install quality.

Is fitted with standard ISO plugs so will fit the Octy with the same adaptors that people use for the parrot car kits.

I dont use the phone in the Octy too much so the one fitted is fine but I would find it a pain to use on a regular basis especially for making calls as scrolling through the phone book is a PITA.

If you want to know anything more just ask.

Cheers Tommo, my car has Maxi-dot but doesnt have Columbus. How do u scroll through contacts etc. using the OEM kit? As u know the vRS doesnt have a multifunction wheel...

The phone functions are accessed via the rocker button on the end of the right-hand stalk. Although not as good as having a multi-funtion steering wheel, it works reasonably well and if you hold the button down it scrolls to the beginning of each letter of the alphabet, e.g A's then 1st of the B's, then 1st of the C's, etc.

One thing to note is that it is best to have the numbers in your phone either on the SIM card or in the phone memory, not both. If they are on both, they are duplicated on the maxidot display when your phone connects to the car, making the scrolling process twice as long!

All in all, I'd say the OEM bluetooth kit, even without the MF steering wheel works really well, it's hidden from view, sounds very good for both call parties and is reasonably straightforward to fit.

Cheers jlwah, did u fit yours yourself or have it fitted by a pro?

I agree that the OEM kit is much more subtle and fits the car perfect, no awkward display etc to spoil the cars looks as its done through maxidot.

My octy is only used for personal use. I rarely make calls from it, if I do, I use the phones keypad (not handsfree as I cant get a decent mount for it). Most calls are incoming which are accepted from the button under the right stalk, you can choose to accept ot reject and then end with this button.

If I used the car for work and had as many calls to make/recieve as I do in the Freelander then I would lose the will to live using the selection process on the OEM kit.

My suggestion would be to get a decent phone mount and proclip and use the phones menu/one touch dialing features to make the calls rather then the stalk.

Of course the OEM kit does also download the recent callers lists (jn/out and missed) so you can use that instead of the phone book to make number selection quicker although that feature as well as phone book download is very much phone specific.

Can you find a member close to you with the OEM kit and try it out?

Cheers thanks again steve, would love to see it action as I use the phone alot in the car...any one in Ireland have this fitted to there car??? Would like to find some one good and neat to fit it as well as I could see myself pulling my hair out!!!

It is quite easy to fit, just time consuming.

Just take your time and be carefull with the trim peices and you would be fine.

Did it myself, took about 4 hours in total, but I had never tackled a job like it before so took time over things like removing the trim.

vRStu's installation guide is very good and was what I followed.

Cheers, thanks again guys!

I also have the Bury C9060 and can not recommend it enough. Works so well and for the price is an excellent piece of kit. The voice dailing is great with no programming required as it reads the name in your phone book. It does mean you have to have a screen mounted on the dash but it is detachable so can be stored out of sight. I have never used the OEM one so can not comment on it.

Get the Nokia CK 300 and a phone holder. The screen is the phone itself, and that car menu looks really nice.

I've seen so many posts about different kinds of Bluetooth kit, but please, if possible, when you guys talk about non-OEM installations you've made on your Octy, tell us the price of the kit you've got. Personaly, it would make me decide what equipment for my next Octy (OEM or non-OEM and which one).

Thanks to all.

Dont want to be cheeky here but what is the point of stating a price.

However cheap I could get it, there will bo someone else that knows someone or somewhere that can obtain something cheaper!

Google is ya friend.

My cc9060 was about £115 plus about £15 for an ISO to Landrover (would be similar for skoda) adaptor kit.

The OEM in the vRS was from the group buy earlier this year, details on prices there.

And of course, your in Portugal so any UK prices will be irrelevant.
