Heavy condensation on frosty mornings

Featured Replies

We have had the first couple of frosts of the winter and the inside of the windscreen was running with condensation. So much that it had to be squeegeed off. The car is Roomster Scout 1.9TDI.

With previous cars I have just turned the aircon on for a few minutes but this doesn't seem to work with the Scout Climatronic.

Make sure you don't have the air pointed at your windscreen before you turn off the car, point it elsewhere :)

Not sure if its the same problem with many Fabia's but if you search on here you'll see lots of the same - have you any water leaks getting into the car, wet carpets? Also I read the other week that if you've washed it or had heavy rain and the car is standing, water can gather and if youve got the air vents open apparently moisture can get through this way and steam up your windows - before you leave the car try closing all the vents and point the fan outlets to the floor to try solve it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to see what happens with the forecast weather over the next few days.

I have no visible leaks in my 08 1.6 tip. But I think most cars will suffer from some damp getting in in winter time. I think that if you can leave a couple of windows part open on sunny days it helps a lot.

My Mk2 VRS is normally garaged overnight, and when i am at work. However, after work tonight, having parked on the road, i came back to a windscreen which was practically dripping on the inside. It took between five and ten minutes to clear, with heater and aircon on. It misted almost instantly when i parked up. The outside temperature was 9.5C according to the car's display.

I must admit, that if this is standard then i think it is very, very, poor. I am a bit anal about having the windscreen perfectly clean, and never touching or wiping it, in order to limit misting. This is one of the reasons (sad i know) why i was delighted to see the little plastic bit which holds your parking tickets as i always used to leave them on the dash or attach them right in the corner with the thinnest possible strip of the sticker in previous cars.

I cant believe this is right, so might try dehumidifying the car and see if it gets any better.

edit: just seen that this is in the roomster forum - i did a search for condensation and this seemed the only one with similar symptoms. Mine is an Octavia

I think I might have been spoiled by my previous car a Toyota RAV. I could start it up and turn on the aircon and it cleared the screen in about 40 secs, I was expecting similar with the Skoda.

There don't appear to be any leaks, I've used it in torrential rain and nothing has come in, the carpets aren't wet either.

I also like a clear screen and windows before I drive away, I've driven behind so many cars that have steamed up windows on the morning work journeys that I'm not surprised that there are so many early morning accidents reported on the radio.
