Anyone using rally/100w bulbs?

Featured Replies

Hi there...

Has anyone used any 100w/rally bulbs in their felicia?

Wanted to give them a go but don't want to melt anything!

Cool... yes its called a Relay in english!

So you have installed new wiring for them to run on... is probably a good idea seen as though they use twice the wattage of the standard bulbs!

Thanks

Phil

Güle güle!

Yes Phil i used 4 way relay for it and a new wiring as seen above :)

the place where i mounted relay is a very good choice for earth point and live +12 wired from alternator :)

i've tested them in various conditions .. no overheating headlight glass(so no worry about rainy days for a crack) no melting in stock connections at the back of headlight works perfectly :)

and as you know wiring before the relay is stock so no problem for them also :)

I've used 130/100w H4 in a mk2 Golf I used to have, run of a dual relay system I made. Worked a peach... although it did crack a headlamp.

That said, they were the original (17 year old) headlamps...

Ive run them for the last 4 years in my fun, and had no problems, although main beam doesnt get used all that much

Cool... thanks guys.

Also anyone happen to be using HID's in their existing lights? After reading about the new bulbs from hids4u with a cap on that stop some of the light so that you don't dazzle people was wondering how they looked and how the beam was scattred by the reflector units in the felicia.

Thanks

Phil

One option is Osram Nightbreakers which claim to be up to 90% brighter than standard bulbs but still legal. I think they're cheapest here - But I believe you currently have philips xtreme power +80% bulbs anyway?

I think you'd get away with putting the 100w bulbs in and running them for 10 seconds or so to help decide if the extra brightness is worth the effort of putting in higher gauge wire and a relay. Worst I hope it would do in that time is blow a fuse but I doubt it would.

Yes I have Philips extreme power bulbs at the moment and although they are a lot brighter than the standard bulbs they're just still not bright enought for my liking!

Might grab some and do what you suggest... just quickly test them and see what i think before wiring them in properly.

Phil

If you were just looking for brighter high beams one option would be driving lamps fixed to the bumper/grille like they tend to use in rallying.

Osram nightbreakers/Philips Xtrempower and extra driving lamps also have the advantage of being perfectly legal... ;)

The alternative would be to go to a quad light setup.

I use Nightbreakers as my main beam, in conjunction with a factory xenon dipped beam setup and can report that they're noticeably brighter and the range on full beam has increased by 25% I'd estimate. This is in comparison with OEM bulbs.

Might be worth investigation Phil, while avoiding upgrading wiring?

Might give them a go...

They're about £23 on powerbulbs at the moment and I believe there is a discount to be had!

I already have the blue vision sidelight bulbs though! lol

Phil

Phil are you after some H4 bulbs?

I have pair of used H4 which i think are 130/90. I did have them in for sale section.

  • 1 month later...

I'm running 100/80's with no wiring changes at all and they run just fine.

I know one who melted his reflectors... but in germany this stuff is not allowed...
