Struggling to Start VRS

Featured Replies

Right first coldish night of the year last night and now my VRS is really not keen on starting, so what could the problem be either its the way the car is or some of the heater plugs are knackered i figure. In this case though surely a light would come up on the dash to let you know? Also I feel my fuel economy isn't what it was 6 months ago I have no concrete evidence of the loss in economy but could this be linked to heater plugs also?

a) Fuel economy nearly always drops every winter anyway so this may be unrelated to your problem

B) I think that glow plugs are unlikely to be the problem also as my car always seems to start perfectly even with no glow plug heat

Not sure of the problem, mine will start without any heat in the mornings all year round, I rarely use the heater plugs.

You will loose fuel economy in the cold weather as the air is more dense so it can inject more fuel, mine has dropped a few mpg these last few really cold days.

Also, when its cold, the air in your tyres wont be as dense, so its like having not enough air in your tyre.

Also... Use your plugs. Theyre there for a reason... To help start your car.

HTH.

Mines a real pain to start in the cold too, glow light stays on for the same ammount of time wether its hot or cold. I find that if you leave it for a few seconds after the glow light has gone out and then start the car it starts much better.

Cold air is denser than warm air!

I've only ever owned diesels so I always let the plugs warm first and it still struggles.

I'll swap you mine haha (If you wanna read "help needed please")

Dodgy battery?

Usually the first cold day/night you find out how good your battery really is and if its upto the job.
