Shorter Sump or Sump Guard

Featured Replies

Thanks to a post about maps bringing me to a golf site which I had a good look at I found that there is a american company doing sumps for the 1.8T that are not as deep as the std. They are also steel so I'd they do get a knock less likely to break compared to the cast std one.

Would I be better getting this than the sump guard. I have a set of KW V3 sitting under my stairs and don't want to fit them till I get sump protected.

Here is a link to the site which has the steel sump ECS Tuning ::OEM / Performance Parts for Volkswagen :: FrontPage

That ECS site is immense mate! Cheers for finding it.

Brand new OEM secondary air pump is $300!! That's so much cheaper

I have an ECS mag sump plug, but I think I need more stuff! *looks up awesomes number*!

Regarding the sump, are you talking about the VW made hybrid one? Which is half steel, half ally? Looks good to me, I'd go for it if I had the money.

It must be so easy tuning a mk4 in America with this website! It's incredible. We should have this in the UK, or atleast Europe.

Only found it when looking at a thread about putting the 1.8T in a MK1 Golf. I have had a MK1 Golf GTI for about 15 years in my garage. Have to sort it out when I finish the kit car. Too many cars not enough time

If its a 3dr with no sunroof and decent body please please please sell it to me :D

I have been looking on and off for the past 3 years for a decent one :)

Ill take some the weekend. Its covered is about an inch of dust. Has been in a garage for the last 13 years

But back on topic, i have the sump guard and love it. Makes a few noises from time to time but all in all is well worth the peace of mind i find.

My car is on H&R Coilovers and is very low :)

I'm just worried that with the terrible roads here in ireland that it will be always bottoming out on the sump guard as this is a bit lower than the sump. Might get the new shallower sump and hope that this is a good cure. Must have a good look at the site to see what the story is with it.

Garry, my mates one is one of the last ones apparently, a special limited run or something.

Factory sunroof, with galvanised body and 1.8 engine. Totally standard and original.

I'll PM you the rest

Sound good :)

Shall await your PM.

going back to the original question. I have a full skoda sump guard on my vrs estate and yes I catch it from time to time at the standard high but I would rather hit that and know that I still have something to go.

the only downside it that it fractionally effects handling but I would rather have it than hit my sump

lol, yeah it can be a pain. Handles like its on rails tho with amazing turn in :D

The splitter is not on their now after going to Le Man (dont know when it came off but was not their upon arrival, ha ha). Got another one to go back on now, they just look so good with it on. As they are only £20.00 i might as well change it every 3000 miles with the oil (every 6 months).
