Air filter change at 40k?

Is it right that the air filter isnt changed until 40k miles? If so it sounds a long time and a lot of potential filth built up. Noticed my mpg dropped off (32k miles) and the air filter came to mind.

IIRC you're correct; Air filter change is set for 40,000 miles.

Personally, I always change more frequently and as I presently have a cleanable/reusable K&N filter I clean this about every 6,000 miles! You'd be surprised at the dirt that comes out of this even after only this mileage.

I always used to change the air filter annually when I ran old bangers and serviced them myself. I've got pipercross air filters on my westfield kitcar and clean them annually (doesnt get used much thanks to the weather). Seeing the dirt that come out of them I hate to think how much crud is in the octy. Wonder how they come up with the 40k figure?

On the fabia it's at 40k, but it will already have had a change at 20k as well.

I change every 10 as I noticed things going downhill at 15 and badly downhill from 20k.

If you're unsure getting it done every service (18.5k miles maximum on variable IIRC) will be fine.

At 40k it's like a block of soot.

Time to get it changed then. Be interesting to see what effect it has on the MPG and performance.

If the car is in warrenty use genuine otherwise go to GSF and get the Mann Filter part.

The VAG OEM one has the words Mann Filter on it along with the vag logos and the same Mann Part number.:thumbup:

Interval for the air filter on the Octavia 2 is actually 60k.

60k!!! Flippin heck, how can it "breathe" by then. How come these service parts are now lasting so long? Is it down to technological advancements? The fleet market dictating what they will pay? The "green" factor, less waste and all that?

Anyone know if the octavia vrs air filter is the same as the golf gti? VW dealer is just up the road from me, Skoda is miles away. Thanks.

My last Golf was on the 40,000 miles air filter change regime and by the time it got there, it was gasping and drinking petrol. The change when the new filter was fitted was amazing.

I propose to change my Octavia air filter at each service.

Pretty likely to be the same. You can check it by, say, checking the part no. of an aftermarket filter on a tuning company's website.

its certainly more than 20k that i can guarantee, i have a green filter in which i clean every 5-8k miles and its pretty black by that point too. get your self either a new filter or a performance filter and watch your mpg go back up. :thumbup:

This is a very basic question, but can someone talk me through how to change the air filter. It’s a ‘07’ 2.0 TDI which has just had its 19,000 mile variable service. The dealers tell me that air filter change is at 40,000. Happy to do this myself, but don’t want to run the risk of damaging any sensors

unscrew the lid for the air box and lift out and place new one in. nothing in there to damage mate.

Get a new genuine filter.

Undo about 7 screws they will pull up but not come out when undone. Don't fully undoo them as you may lose them.

The screws are one on each corner of the airbox, two in the middle and I think two on the bit that connect to the pipe at the back going to the engine.

Gently lid the lift up making sure you don't snag anything, then pull the old filter out, put a new one in and then place the lid down again and do up the screws.

When doing that make sure the filter is correctly seated so air can't gen around it and the lid is lined up.

Changed mine when car had done 15K it was black as......:rofl: on 25K so maybe do it again soon:thumbup:

Mine's on whatever Skoda recommend - due to the Lease company's input :thumbdwn:

I'll check the job sheet when they bring the car back later on, but 40k seems to be stretching things slightly... :rofl:

Personally I'd do the DIY change if you're at 40k as you'll save the £5 in fuel if you do a lot of driving.
