Octy may have saved my familys lives

Featured Replies

Hi Guys just thought i would say that i purchased my 53 reg L & K TDI 110 estate a few months ago and i think it's brilliant.

I was driving down the A53 in Shropshire after picking the kids up from school. I rounded a corner doing 60 to be confronted by a focus just starting to overtake a lorry. I couldn't believe it, i put the brakes on full and the car came to a complete stop in seconds after the ABS kicked in several times. i managed to turn the car to the left enough to fit a focus and tiny bit more between the on coming lorry and me amid alot of beeping (from the lorry i honestly didn't have time)

The brakes (all round discs i believe) are brilliant on this car so much better than my Passat which we use as a second car now. I honestly think if i was in the much more basic passat (51 reg no traction, basic brakes) we would have hit that car head on.

I just thought i would share as in a world 0-60 and BHP i think sometimes we miss the important things that could save your life 60-0!!.

Anyway the cars great and has already paid for itself.

Yes I love the brakes on my Vrs, for my driving they are more than up to the job  I remember the first time I urgently slowed from about 100 to 0 (On my private road) and getting that lovely twitching feeling from the back end due to the excellant front brakes:D

My backseat passenger looked decidedly ill

SWMBO used my octy II this week while her punto was in for a service and the one thing that she commented on wasn't the extra power or comfort but how good the brakes were.

I think she almost headbutted the dashboard each time she came to a halt :D

Good to hear nothing bad came of this. Any action taken against the focus?

No it was all to quick for me to get a reg. hopefully the truck driver did something. I was just glad to be in one piece. it's one of those times you want a police car behind you isn't it... hopefully a VRS with even better brakes:)

In this situation you probably didn't want anyone behind you, but I agree the FSIII brakes are pretty powerful.

FWIW they are also very strong cars in a crash too.

I take it that my brakes are FSIIIs? and i hope that i never find out how good it is in a crash! by the way does anyone know what the Octavia MK1 scored in the NCAP Tests?

While my Fabia Elegance was in for a service at the dealers I had a Fabia 1 with only the two front brakes, when I got my car back and pressed the brake pedal I thought something was wrong with them then I remembered I had been driving a car with 2 brakes for a day and going from 2 to 4 brakes was so much better.

I assume you mean it had drums at the rear.

On a fabia the rear brakes do next to nothing anyway, so it's probably just bigger front brakes or something that made that difference.
