New Octavia VRS Owner

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I have recently bought a 04 Octavia VRS and stumbled upon these forums (What a fountain of knowledge this place is!)

First of all I'd like to say hi to all the other Skoda owners out there, I couldn't have bought a better car for my money :) I do have a few small questions I could not find the answers to in the main forums though.

A friend of mine who works in a garage said that after abusing the car and giving it "some beans" I should let the car idle for a few minutes before I actually turn the engine off, he said this helps the Turbo cool down and expel the oil? I have not owned a car with a Turbo before I wondered if this was sound advice (All my other cars I have owned had Vtec instead)

He also mentioned that he and his workmates from around the area have seen alot of VRS's come into their shop for Turbo repairs, he added that once the Turbo goes you can expect the engine to follow seconds later.

One more thing, I followed the instructions on how to stop the temperature light from flashing when it is extreamly cold outside by cleaning the two rods in the coolant reservoir (Great advice) I did notice that there was quite a bit of dirt in the coolant tank though, should this give me cause for concern?

Many thanks and apologies for reading this essay :)

Cheers

Ricochet

P.S Being a Bristolian my forum title is rather fitting!

Welcome to Briskoda, :)

Letting the engine idol after having a "brisk" drive in your skoda is a good idea

Not sure about your other questions, sure some others will be along soon.

welcome along

Hello and Welcome.

Subarus used to have a sticker on the driver's door about allowing the turbo to spin down / cool after a brisk drive.

Hello and welcome.

You're better off driving gently for a few minutes after a brisk run than letting the engine idle whilst stationary.

Welcome to the site :)

Welcome to Briskoda
