Allard "power pipe"

Featured Replies

Just got it fitted tonight (thanks to Digital Dwarf for his very kind offer to help fit. Thanks mate :)) and the first thing i noticed was when the ignition is turned off, the engine shudders a little more than usual. I'm putting this down to the lack of the EGR and and the Samco hose.

Also the car "whistles" a little more, sounds good tho :thumbup:

Is this normal or have i screwed it up :rofl::rofl:

Cheers guys n gals

This is normal, as you've removed the EGR which incorporates an anti-shudder device.

Perfectly normal mate

 i've got alot of saving to do ;):)

I find it shudders to varying degrees too, often not noticeable at all while other times it's quite a jolt really. Not really an issue, just a bit odd.

There was discussion earlier in the year too, about the EGR's involvement in the ASR's operation. Quite a few of us are fairly sure that the traction control is now far less intrusive than it used to be. As if the EGR valve is used to reduce power when 'apparent' slip is detected. So go and test, and see what you think :)

Interesting........i'll go give her a bit of a blast today and report back what i think

All this is very interesting and well worth while as I have an Allard Pipe ready and waiting fitting. Was not sure if to wait until I get the samco kit or not...

Will be getting a remap done on it afterwards just to get rid of the CEL light...

Loads to concider. May do lots of other things too before fitting it...

advice is good though, thanks all..

What Samco kit are you getting? I'd go ahead and fit the pipe, I wouldn't really think the aftermarket pipework will make any noticeable difference, aesthetics aside :)

Just make sure on fitting, that you get a really good connection between the Allard pipe and the std 90deg-left pipe you connect to. Mine popped off quite a few times as you're connecting together metal and rubber and there's not a lot of play available. Mine was Araldited to the Allard pipe in the end :)

I got a hold of a 90 degree bend Samco hose for the Allard pipe to the plastic boost hose. Planning on replacing the boost hose with a nice stainless one.

Wardy - i did find the ASR less intrusive and the car "seemed" quicker (placebo effect??):)

what is this and why do it?

replaces the EGR pipe which gets clogged up with cr@p lol Do a search for a far more indepth explanation

Good work - I was quite annoyed at Allard, as in my mind this isn't a complete kit as it doesn't connect properly with the rest of the boost system. A Samco hose, like the one you describe, should be included IMO.

Let me know about the metal section, if you do end up getting one. I'd be interested too.

Glad you're finding an improvement anyway. Have a look round for that thread I mentioned and add your findings there too

I'll get some info and prices on the stainless pipework, probably on wednesday or thursday. Got the hose from another member on here

been looking at buying the allard power pipe for a while now,

What are the gd and bad points to one?

I had the rubber hose keep on slipping off the power pipe too. Int he end I got a huge exhaust clamp and used that to secure it. The rubber pipe hasn't moved since lol!

One more of those borderline OEM connectors gone, good one....

If you feel up to it - you can get rid of all of them by taking the upper plastic pipe to an exhaust place and getting a copy made in steel. If they can roll retaining lips on it all the better otherwise you can make lips with epoxy and masking tape.

Bye-bye to any small but nasty boost leaks..... and no more embarassing "pop-offs"...

Isnt the PD160 ibiza one metal anyway??
