Hi from Ireland... fuel economy?

Featured Replies

Hello skoda ppl...

I've just got myself a lovely 2.0 tdi sport, it drives beautifully. One think that concerns me is that averaging a speed of 60mph (in 6th) I'm only getting about 40/41 mpg... if I drop the speed to between 45-50mph (again, in 6th) I can get about 52 mpg.. Is this normal? what fuel consumption are others getting.

It is in need of some new front tyres, I'd expect this will help economy once fitted.

Tks!

Hello and Welcome.

If you're using the trip computer to measure mpg, just be aware that some are more inaccurate than others. Brim to brim measurement is your only man to judge its accuracy.

Welcome. It does sound very low.

welcome

Hey from Cork and a BIG welcome to Briskoda

I have not owned a 2.0TDi, but have had a 1.9 - 130bhp, and now have a 1.8TSi, and that will match your mpg, the TDI would have walked all over it .

How old is the car? What milage is on it? Do you know when it was last serviced? Brim to brim fill-ups are the only way to get a true reading on your mpg, but it would sound to me that there is something amiss with your car right now

It's a 2005, 57k on it & it's only just been serviced.

I'm going to ignore the computer and test it on a full fill of juice and see if it's any better that way. I suspect the 225/17/45 ZR tyres don't help it's economy!

I had a 1.9tdi 90bhp Octy before this, without any effort on economy it averaged 55/60mpg.

Will let ye know how I get on.

Hi and Welcome to Briskoda,

The readings do sound not quite right as my tuned vRS gets 37mpg with an average of 60mph

Assume you've got pretty wide tyres on that too...? The guy I bought it from said the 2.0 140bhp can be chipped up to 170/180bhp & actually become more economical... tempting ;)

225/45 17"s. When it was new and unfettled, she was getting 41-43mpg every day of the week...but i've been playing since, so am still impressed with the 37mpg on the long journeys up an down to wexford every weekend.

Yeah when mine was first remapped, it did give me a 48mpg on a drive from northampton to chester....I couldn't believe my eyes...so I took a pic.

48mpg... i like the sound of that... can you recommend somewhere to get it remapped? How much should I expect to pay for such a tweeking?

Also doing research on tyres atm too... saw some other posts.. the michelins sound the best, although a little expensive @ €230 each.. eiks. Might get some quotes up North, I'm sure they're a lot cheaper outside rip off republic. :-)

I must say...that I've only ever done it ONCE and could never repeat it. Rempaaing wise in Ireland I hear "Chipped Ireland" are very good... Have a look on VAGdrivers.net for comments on them and a few other remappers.

I got mine done in Jabbasport a long time ago and can recommend them, but its a long drive to Peterborough.

Tyres...I'd recommend Federal SS595s and Camskill.co.uk to buy them...The only issue is finding a local fitter, so they'll charge 15 yoyos a corner to do them.

I used to use Goodyear eagle F1s but the Federals are so much better.

mine is a 2/0 fsi sport petrol, it does at 75mph motorways an average 38mpg. 35-44mpg to work from swmbo's which is mainly 30-50mph roads over 6 miles. 32mpg booting it about and overall in the past few months ive averaged 36mpg. i would suggest you would get about 10mpg more than me being a diesel.

Hiya.

That does sound kinda thirsty for a diesel, more so since IME the MPG modes on the computer are optomistic; my commute utterly kills my fuel economy, and I still get 50mpg (ok from an A4 TDi110).
