MFD3 v Stream MP3

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am thinking about replacing my Stream Mp3 head unit with the MFD3 (Columbus, RNS510 etc..!) HU pending funding & wanted to know if somebody could tell me the power output of both these systems?

I notice on some fleabay adverts that the MFD3 has 4 x 40w but some are also stating 4 x 20w (same as the MFD2)?

I am not sure what output the Stream MP3 has but would also like to know.

Thanks,

W.

Standard power output for the Columbus is 80W (4 x 20W).

If you add the premium audio system (currently only available on the new Superb) then you get a 10-channel amplifier with a total power output of 250W.

Cheers,

Bagpuss.

Thanks Bagpuss, I'm hoping for a BIG improvement on overall sound quality but not sure if the MFD3 is really going to be that great with this sort of output without an amp?

I've already upgraded all my speakers to Vibe black air 6's which does make a difference but need more PoWeeeRRRRR! Not sure if spending £700+ on an MFD3 is going to give better overall results (I'm not fussed about Sat Nav/DVD) than spending £200 on a decent amp for the Stream MP3.

I think you might be surprised at the sound it provides.

Stu is absolutely right here. The MFD3 sounds a whole lot better than the Stream with the stock speakers.

Given that you've changed the speakers, the amp in the MFD3 might not give you the performance you're looking for. The last thing you want to do is get the MFD3 and find it can't drive the speakers effectively when playing whatever music you're into.

Every car system I've installed has always performed and sounded better with good external amplification. If it was possible for you to get the MFD3 with the Skoda soundsystem, then I'd say go for it.

As it stands, you could get a very nice aftermarket setup for the kind of money that the MFD3 will cost you.
