Service and MOT

Featured Replies

(2004 plate) The computer says that my 10,000 mile service is due in 300 miles, however, it isn't until February 2009 that it will be 12 months since my last service and that's also when my MOT is due.

Do i wait to have my service (50,000 miles service, but actually only done 45,000) in February when my MOT is due or do i get it done now? There's lots of offers out there for Serive and MOT for £99, so this would be a saving.

Also, Skoda in Sedgefield (north east) says if i take them up on there £99 deal (basic service) i still get the Skoda stamp without having to pay for the usual Skoda service, which will be alot more.

I only use the car for social and domestic and not track and no mods.

Opinions please?

I would service it now if it's displaying it and as for the type of service I am pretty sure cambelt is due at 4 years maximum regardless of milage assuming its on it's original belt so it may need a major service anyway.

The service countdown works on a time/distance basis; are you sure you've not done 10_000 miles since the counter was last reset?

Had the cambelt changed last service, so all it needs is an annual service.

Counter was reset at last service in Feb and sounds right that i've done 10,000 miles already.

Do i risk leaving the service till Feb??

I would still say service it, otherwise you have service costs and potentially unexpected MOT costs all at once.

If you've done 10_000, service it. It's only about £100 (assumes £50/hr plus Badger's Bit).

That all depends if you consider the amount of work done, the grade of oil used and the amount of parts (genuine or not) replaced on a £99 service really a service. Or is is a cheap oil + pattern filters change, not to 505.01 spec oil plus a quick mot?
