Every now and then when i get into the car and drive off, the little red immobiliser light on the drivers door stays lit. Turning the engine off and starting up again eliminates the problem. Like i said, its only on occasions this happens and not every time.

Any advice would be appreciated

Mine does the same. I have no idea whatsoever why though.

If you do a search on here it appears to be a common fault/issue...

Its a problem with the alarm rather than the immobilizer. Should have logged a fault code.
