Anyone had a sticking caliper?

Featured Replies

Well, my '58 reg vRS has done less than 600 miles now. I have a suspicion that my aircon is not working 100% (it IS working, but not dehumidifying as much as I expect). Now another problem. I've notice my offside front brake disc is developing some nasty score marks and has a light surface corrosion. The nearside one is smooth and shiny, as you'd expect. Looks like there is a problem with the o/s caliper then - pads sticking or caliper sticking. Off to the dealer tomorrow morning. Not a good start!

Yes on my previous car - octy1 1.9Tdi at about 18k miles.

It started making a grinding noise when braking. It turned out to be a seized rear brake caliper on the passenger side. The dealer replaced the caliper plus both rear discs and pads under warranty. They tried to wriggle out of doing it under warranty at first by saying that consumable items (like tyres/exhaust/brake pads) wern't covered by the warranty. I argued that the the caliper shouldn't have seized in 18K miles and that the pads/discs only needed replacing because of failure of something that was covered by warranty.
