number plate showing

Featured Replies

why is it that when number plate on a picture should be blurred? everyone can see it on the road or parked up so why cover up the reg plate on a pic ? its confussing me and it is one of these little pointless things i would like to know ! any1 with the answer i would be grateful ! :D

There have been some cases here in Denmark where insurance companies have visited some car websites and from pictures with plates showing, and in some cases with RR graph to boot - peoples insurances have been cancelled or gotten very expensive because they have done engine tuning.

As a side note: Someone had posted a video on a car website showing him pulling the steering wheel of while driving. The police found the video and he was convicted of wreckless driving and got his license taken.

So be aware of what you post online.

I dont know but I wanna know 2 :D

Think it all down to liability at the end of the day. Nobody wants to take responsibility for anything. (Blame culture)

We'll see though somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I always speak my mind and hate been told to shut up as it just makes me speak louder.

Fair point really best keep quiet on here guys then. Cos I know I hate money grabbing sharks.

Possible issue with car cloning as well. Good luck to anyone finding a car like mine to clone!

It annoys me too.Its incase someone 'steals' the identity I suppose.Pointless really, as like you say, it can be seen day in, day out on the roads! People can find your address from your cars reg number and steal the car etc or clone it.Some people are just paranoid and so blank out their plates in pics.I wonder if they cover them up when they are driving on the roads too...........

ah ha i thought it was a silly question at first ! obv it isnt ! im glad i asked now !!

On the subject of covering your number plate Somebody I knew a few years ago had a Vespa T5 Scooter (Fast believe me 90mph top speed) He had special plate that conveniently flipped up everytime he passed by a speed camera whilst obeying the speed limit of course.

Strange that eh ? :D

Chances are though if someone cloned your car close to where you live you'd notice. If I was to clone your car because its numberplate was on the internet then I could be anywhere in the country.

I know of someone who has had their numberplate cloned and he has a lot of hassle even though the police are aware of the issue and he has a letter from a chief constable to show any police officers who pull him over.

Also, there are a number of highly tuned cars on this website and posting the numberplate makes it very easy to find out where they live, thus a prime target for theft.

If you have a Black VRS and i was that way inclined, criminal, skint or reckless i would

buy a plate off of EBAY with your reg attach it to my car, drive in and out of London

clocking up loads of charges, not give a feck about speed cameras when the rossers

clocked it i would be insured because you are, ETC. Less bother covering up the reg.

I always cover up the reg.

its mainly for the following reasons:

1. Cloning

2. Insurers

3. Thieving scum who like what you have

For those who want to know what i mean of no.3 its simple. look at some of the peoples sigs on here "revo 2, chipped, lowered, banging stereo system, ultra fast, etc etc" a thief will either think him "MY 05 VRS" on bright yellow octy and its floating around Newbury ill head over that way as im scum and dont work and when i find it i will either hijack the car or nick the car keys from the owners home and know i can use it in a robbery later down the line as its rolling road graph showed 400bhp and on that private road he claimed he got 170mph and that means its faster than the scoobys the police have around here.

Also means when they spot your car parked up that they know whats worth money on it and either nick the bits off or nick the car to get the bits off.

Another reason is that Skoda UK quite often check out this site to see who is invalidating their warranties ....very difficult with no reg number ....but ohh so easy when there is one on show

But it only needs to be another silver fabia... doesn't need to look identical to yours at all for it to cause you no end of trouble. :thumbdwn:

if someone had a black fabia vrs and wanted to clone a plate! they wouldn't go hunting round there local town they'd be straight on the internet looking for the one place which has a mass ammount of them all in one place for them to choose from! then helllllloooo instant speeding fines, parking tickets.....

Basically what they said -

1. Cloning

2. Insurers

3. Thieving scum who like what you have.

Woman at my work had her car numberplate cloned (Audi TT) - didn't know a thing about it till she and her boyfriend were stopped and arrested by the ARMED police for doing a string of violent armed robberies at post offices and security vans !!

The police were quite apologetic once they'd realised that they'd got the wrong people.

The forums have ears.

Can't you hear the SUK Elf running round chuckling at us?

i cover mine up because iv had my plate cloned before and heeps of parking and driving offences racked up in my name plus with a reg no. people can find out where you live and where the car is keep to make it easyer to steal etc
