Advice needed on Dension 300, Stream Mp3 and Octavia II

Featured Replies

Dear fellow Briskodians

I know the subject has been discussed before and I´ve read a lot of threads here about it, nevertheless I need your advice on the Dension Gateway 300.

This is the current situation: I am the proud owner of a Skoda Octavia II Elegance Estate 2.0 Tdi, 2007, with the Stream Mp3 headunit. I have no iPod nor any AUX output socket in the jumbo box. No CD changer either.

This is the desired situation: Santa Claus is giving me an iPod (Classic 120 Gb) for Christmas, and I´m going to buy and install the Dension Gateway 300, probably from Dension Gateway 300 | Dension ice>Link Plus Gateway 300 | iPod Car Kit Direct since this is cheaper than here.

This is the questions:

a) Exactly which model / harness do I need for my headunit? The dropdown list doesn´t contain the Stream Mp3 HU?

B) Is the harness plug and play for my HU or do I need to do some cutting, soldering and wiring as some threads describe?

c) Where to put the Dension unit / the iPod? Glove box compartment or dashboard top box? Advice on dismanteling the box, wirering, cutting holes etc. much appriciated.

d) Will you recommend the docking cable solution?

e) Parrot CK3200 is installed. Does it make any complications on the matter?

f) Any advice on the subject otherwise?

My local dealer suggested a simple AUX wiring, no charging of iPod, no ID3 showing, for the price of a Dension 100. Here the Dension 300 costs about 100 pounds more than on the website, so I´ll be gratefull for your help and the Lady of the House probably will get a bigger Christmas present than expected. Also if the operation is successfull, I´ll think of you all 3 hours driving to and from work enjoying music.

Regards

a) Get the one for RCD300. That's basically the same thing as Stream. Actually if you go to www.dension.com and select the Dension 300. On the product page you'll see a list of car manufacturer's. Just click on Skoda and it will open a list of compatible head units. Stream is there.

B) It is plug&play. You'll just insert the cable to CD-changer slot in the Quadlock connector. On top of the headunit there's a chart on Quadlock pinouts.

c&d) I have the Kufatec Digital music interface and I've installed it inside the glove compartment. You'll need to take the glove compartment out and cut a small piece behind it to feed the wire. Otherwise it's pretty easy.

If you want to use the cradle (which is nice as you can see the Ipod), then I'd recommend that you get a new radio surround which has the phone bracket hole. You'll get a nice clean docking cradle installation and you can feed the wire through that hole also. No need to cut and detach the glove compartment.

e) Don't know. Probably won't be affected as it uses a different pins.

f) Dension units are very nice (Expensive but nice). They support multifunction steering wheel and the sound quality is excellent.

Hope this helps a bit.
