Skoda Book

Featured Replies

Picked up a reasonable book called "A True History of Skoda" by Dave Rendle last week. Quite interesting, especially on the early years and the VW takeover even though it seems to almost forget the Estelle totally and a bit dated now only going up to the Fabia 1. Anyone else read this? What do you think?:)

Never read it, but have read some of the other books - A Century of the Fastest Skoda Cars, L&K Skoda Parts 1 & 2 etc. They are the best ones. All have really good sections on the RWD Skodas, and especially the Rallying models. If you send an email to Skoda-auto.com (Not Skoda UK), via their contact page, and request copies, they will send them free - I've had 3 copies of each sent to 3 different addresses so far.

I have read this book and really enjoyed it. I have always been a Skoda fan! (going on 20+ years!) It was interesting to find out about their history.

I seen this book at a car show a couple of years ago and now having difficulty in tracing it, but from what I remember it was a good read.

Doesn't appear that they do:confused:

To quote: "We cannot authorize their disposal" . Sounds like my local waste control operative.;) Anyway that either means they can't or won't.

Yes I had the same response  "thank you for your interst in our brand. We apologize but we haven't requested book for disposal. You can try contact (Gives Skoda's HQ details)"

Guess that's just bad Czech-> English translation?

Yep - I have tried the alternative contact - I will let you know what happens

Ditto if it is the same guy i have contacted

I have had another response saying that I will have to pay for them, I have asked how much this will be.

Ive read it , and enjoyed it. But wad a bit peeved at the lack of Estelle, Rapid, Fav and Felly stuff

Havn't read a book on Skoda per-se, but was doing some research for my Uni coursework and found out Skoda used to make artillery for the Austro-Hungarian forces during WW1, and they were widely considered to be some of the best artillery units about.

This brings back memories of GCSE history lessons Ultra Joel. The Skoda arms works were indeed highly prized (one of the biggest and best in Europe) and, if memory serves my right, were part of the reason Hitler annexed the Sudetenland and then occupied the whole of Czechoslovakia as it was then known. Correct me if i'm wrong!

When you check into it there isnt much mechanical/motive stuff that Skoda dont make. They even make trains and engines that are bigger than houses to go in ships
