6 and 8 for me. I love my Octy2. I've test driven so many cars this year and none have really been a better all-round around package. The Octy is so comfortable, economical and practical. Regarding point 8, I'm a self employed IT consultant and the current economic climate is affecting the contract market, so I need to have large cash reserves to tide me over when I'm not working.

Battoning down the hatches at the moment. Both our cars really do the job and (apart from one with a few pounds outstanding ) are paid for.

New cars would be an unnecessary extravagance and we are concentrating on paying the mortgage/doing the house up.

VED gets right up my nose though.Tempts me to only buy older more polluting cars in the future.Sorry, bit OT

Bought my Fabia VRS three years ago and only has 33,000 miles. Very happy with it although would like something like a Clio Cup as want to go back to revvy petrol power given the steep hike in Diesel. However the VRS does such a good allround job and with such few compromises that I would be a fool to change. Income uncertain at moment and in this market even an economical and still fairly desirable car like the VRS is only going to attract about 5k. 7 grand in three years quite a big hit! It also feels solid and the engine has proven reliability if looked after so will run it into the ground.

With the state of the economy, who wants to take on more debt?

Phil

Very happy with the Fabia and have no intention of changing it in the forseeable future - I only bought it in January and plan to keep it as long as possible.

It's my 3rd car in 10 years, i had my first car for 6yrs and my 2nd for 3 (although I didn't get on very well with that one) and if it wasn't for rust issues with my first car I reckon I'd probably still be running it. I don't use my car for work so it's mainly for weekends, occasional long journeys and a hobby I suppose, so it wouldn't make sense for me to buy a new car.

I think at the moment it's the thought of what this recession might bring........But if that nice Grey Superb goes down enough James I may be tempted

Considered selling mine when it was 2 years old (coming up soon). But it appears to be worthless, and I should really be saving my pennies for house purchase :o

I'll see how I feel after Christmas...

Well, looking at the options, I quite enjoy the Octavia for now but my next car will

be another BMW, be it 330 or Z4 :)

Still got it on demo fleet, I'm sure we'll be keen to move it on in the new year.

Go for a Z4 Coupe very cool and suprisingly cheap now, I got offered a very late one for what I thought was a bargain a couple of weeks ago!

The market is moving so fast I really feel sorry for dealers. Currently I’m looking at an 8 month old 2nd hand Sedice 4x4 (7K miles). I am almost done negotiating and the price is almost half (!!) what the car’s full list was 8 months ago. The dealer got the car as a trade in 2 weeks ago and I have seen the SIV on it. He wants to make £750 on it (possibly a little from my deposit and the rest from a small amount of finance….I have promised not to invoke ‘Claw-back and would wait 6 months to settle the finance). The trouble is, there is a similar aged car in the Midlands for same initial asking price (£8900-but obviously I am haggling down from this) and it has only done 10 miles (pre reg I guess). The dealer with the second car will have to take the sting of this sale a little whereas the dealer with the first car (the one I am looking at) has let the previous owner take the main sting. I could be wrong but I can’t see how even FIAT can list a car at £15-16K when new and afford to sell it pre-registered at £9K. There must be some huge subsidies out there or they have an overage problem they have to sort.

But I can also see that in a couple of months there will be an imaginary 3rd car that will be similar in age and mileage to the first car (7K miles) and even cheaper still as this 3rd cars previous owner will have taken an even bigger hit of depreciation, do to the falling market. This could mean that dealers will be stuck with cars that are worth a lot less than their SIVs and they will be faced with the problem of losing money at Auction or losing money through conventional sales. I don’t know what it’s like on the front line, but I guess if you blink at the wrong time you could be sitting on a loss making piece of metal very quickly and very easily indeed. I hope you have good fortune Allums Skoda and stay ahead of the game.

i feel there isn't a suitable car available that will replace my Fabia vRS

Based on Tony's run at Awesome on Sat - a tweaked Roomster

I'm quite happy with my current car, and have no reason to change. Its less than 2 years old, and I still have 2 1/4 years or 42k left on the Lease agreement.

I'm currently looking for a new job, which will mean I (probably) lose the car, so I'll be looking for something then - either buying the Octy form the Lease company, or getting a cheap banger, until I've paid off the bills for the probable house move.

I wouldnt change as happy with it, and the finance (well personal lease) is a lot less than it is currently.

My next car is likely to have LPG, and unless Skoda/VAG wake up to LPG, then I may have to look else where.

EDIT - oh and the f-up with VED rates. Thanks again Darling.

The tax benefits of lpg will soon be a thing of the past .
