Emissions Workshop warning message

Featured Replies

This warning came on this morning and the emissions warning light stays on, however, its not in limp mode and drives OK. I'm going into the stealers tomorrow and its out of warranty!! I need the car to go down south next week so hope its nothing major!

Is this a common problem? I've seen a few threads that say they have to go back as it keeps happening?

Lambda probe I'd guess. Common with VAG cars - it won't go into limp home mode and it will drive fine. It will need replacing but ain't gonna do any damage in the short term. Other than that if the car is a diesel sometimes the light comes on when the particulate filter in the exhaust system is full - you need to drive for around 10 mins at 60mph+ to burn off all the cr&p and it should be fine.

I see you're driving a TDi.

The first thing to do is to get the car scanned. If you take it to the dealer, ask them what fault codes they find.

I had this error on mine, and it was the fuel temp sensor which cost a couple of quid. got it from the dealer and changed it myself in less than 5 mins. Not seen the error since either, so all is good. Diesel engines do not have lambda sensors, so it cannot be that.

Get a Brisky member to run a diagnostic for you. I did :)

Ah. :P

Hi , sorry didn't have time to ask somebody as going away for a week's course so needed the car! Anyway, £143 later.... apparently its the flap motor? needed cleaning out and if it comes on again it will need renewing at £320+vat and fitting!!! Sorry btw... the money was also for a mirror indicator and fitting too and to check out the AM reception which is totally pants everywhere yet perfectly OK on the diagnostics!!! I wonder if they actually tried it as the stereo was still on CD and FM setting?

Thanks btw... for the replies:thumbup:

The throttle flaps are pretty common, cleaning out in my experiance is pretty much a waste of time so prepare yourself for a bill. Watch out as when they jam up they blow the cooling fan control unit fuse and can over heat.

Cheers Ross, you made my day :thumbdwn:!!! btw the course I'm on starts Sunday in Newport Pagnell

If it does go, you can get a new one for circa £160 and they're a doddle to fit yourself.

OK, been a ex-mechanic guess I could do it! but tbh havent a clue what and where it is? the kind service reception guy kindly wrote down the part no (as he rubbed his hands with glee) part no. 038128063G

found this link guess thats it?

What is it? [Archive] - VWAUDI Forum

Have a look here.

Yeah its pretty easy to change, the front boost pipe clips into it and it has one electrical connection in it. Three 5mm allen key bolts hold it on.

That looks a good deal.

Well would you believe it!! This morning the warning light and Emissions Workshop warning message came back on straight away. However the car does drive perfectly well!!

Guess I should ask for the diagnostics readout really from the garage!!

You'll probably find the fuse has blown.

Well, i paid £161 for it from Europarts. not bad really as they wanted £179 to begin with, and it was still half that the stealer wanted without VAT. I had seen online for £125 without VAT but no stock, still would have cost £15 p+p so not much difference, used this to get the price down:D

A few drama's fitting it!!! the bolts are a bit awkward especially when you drop 2 of the bolts on to the floor tray! I had to go and buy a flexi magnet to retrieve them. My days of spannering are behind me:rolleyes:

Anyway, one problem solved. Just the other fault found now!

00888 - Wiper Switch for Intermittent Operation (E22)

014 - Defective - Intermittent

I have just found and cleared 00888.

It means the switch on top of the wiper stalk that controls the sensitivity of the auto wipe is intermittently on the blink.

Could be the switch or the wiring. Right now with that I'm getting a random clicking noise from what sounds like a relay, so I'll be rescanning it at the weekend to check.

Thanks, tbh... I had noticed that the auto wipe does not seem to be that sensitive and wont clear!
