Superchips upgrade for 1.6 FSi

Featured Replies

Hi

Does anyone have any experience of a Superchips ECU remap on the 1.6 FSi?

Once people have got over the shock that they bother for this engine ;) let me explain my thinking...

It costs £299 fitted including VAT. Engine stats improve as follows:

  • Power - up 5.2% to 121 BHP
  • Torque - up 7.7% to 167 Nm

Whilst this clearly won't turn my Octy estate into a rip-snorting, road-tearing machine this actually isn't what I'm after. I've recently started a new job that requires me to drive a 64-mile round trip commute on A-roads (mostly dual-carriageway). I tend to drive smoothly and consistently at around 60 mph (3,000 rpm) and get between 48-52 mpg.

What I'm hoping for is stronger urge for overtaking on the dual-carriageway and for getting out of the way of idiots in lorries doing 70 mph.

Obviously, I'd also like to keep the reliability and fuel economy of the standard ECU.

Thoughts please - Stuart.

I think it would be worth it. Like you say it's not just about monster BHP gains, I'm sure it will make the car far more responsive in terms of real world driving, and deliver the power far more smoothley over the rev range (which is what you want).
