How do I remove lower centre grille on vRS?

Featured Replies

I have bought some black Kamei mesh which I want to fit behind the lower centre grille on my vRS. I can remove the side grille pieces, but how does the centre section come out. Don't just want to tug it forward and break it!

I've done it a couple of times without too much fuss; requires a degree of application though. Have a look at these instructions from Milotec;- http://milotec.de/media/content/pdf/octaviaII/634xxxx%20-%204-sprachig_07.pdf?XTCsid=dbd905fb3b6bbba4f975fb0a0d626f08

You do not need though to wreck the fitting (as instructed), the barbed clips can be released with careful use of a wide but thin flat blade screwdriver.

I would like to suggest though the mesh behind the OE grill is not great as it gets dirty and can't be got at to be cleaned, plus doesn't really show at all that it is there. I presently have some mesh fitted in front of the OE grill secured with small cable ties and with the ends wrapped round the last fin of the OE grill for security. Looks pretty good IMHO.

Here are a couple of pics;-

I hope this helps.

I hope that helps.

Thanks!

So the centre piece basically just pulls forward then? Do you have to pry it, or just grab the fins and pull?

Cheers.

Pry, ease, tease; unless you want to ruin the barbed fixings after which it will not fit back in securely.

heres my extra lower grill

Looks good - very similar to mine infact - http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/colour-coded-grill-surround-last/113405/

How did you attach the mesh to the lower grill? I screwed it into the back of the 'finns'.

I made a frame to support the grill and attched it to several points in front of the radiator so its set well back from the front plastic grill.

The frame was an experiment using 2 sheets of exterior plywood to sandwich the expanded metal sheet. The screws compress the plywood together , so holding the grill. I did it this way to make the grill esaily removable. I intend to remake the frame out of some left-over plastic fascia to make it more weather proof and also use some stainless steel mesh (from the bases of discarded surgical instrument autoclaving trays - nice square holes.)

I like that idea. I may well do the same.

I had problems in the lake district whilst being recovered after two tyres were shagged.

The recovery firm could not remove the grille and load it onto the trailer :(

The car manual only quoted other spec cars, but not the vRS :(
