Golf/Bora PD150 Front Mount I/C

Featured Replies

Would it, and associated pipework fit? Quite fancy a FMIC, but over £600 is a bit much IMO. Can get a new cooler cheap enough...

Just a thought

Fabia, Golf.

Different platform so no, not without alot of modification.

ive mounted quite a few universal intercoolers to a number of different cars and ive found the hardest part being having to find space to run the pipes. making the brackets has never really been a problem. although i have never tryed or even had a look on a fabia so cant give too much help although with the right equipment and time anything can be done:D

why do you need a FMIC ?

if you don't plan on doing the whole thing then theres no need for one.

and if you are planning on doing the whole "power" thing then do it properly ;)

Are you planning, or had a remap? If not then save your cash as mentioned, it's a bit pointless. If you are only having/had a remap, then search "pikey" mod on here, and that also will save you money.

Planning on a remap in the near future. Will only be to about 170bhp as its still on the standard clutch.

Just like to keep the intake temps down

Try the SEAT sport cooler from the ibiza. Same platform as the fabia and fitted to plenty of the tdi130 ibizas. think with the forge pipework kit, the total cost comes to around £500.

The PD 150 Golf intercooler is designed to fit inbetwwen the headlamps of a Golf. It goes inbetween the rad and the condensor, they all fit together and then mount at the sides to the standard rad mounts, the chance of it all fitting int he front of the fabia I would say is slim.

Has anyone thought about/tried mounting another standard Fabia cooler at the front, and routing the pipework to the existing one to cool it twice?

No idea if it would work, but don't see why not given that it could just be 'plumbed' into the existing curcuit of hoses.......

(stands back and awaits to be shot down....)

A good idea, maybe.

Aside from the fact the other side is rather full with the PAS pump and washer bottle.

I was thinking about putting in it that huge gap at the front?

Loads of space for a small intercooler like the existing one in the wing, and i bet the pipe work could be routed easily enough?

Yeah go for it, be interested to see the results.

I've given it plenty of thought if i'm honest, but my funds have dwindled lately... maybe in the new year, but i'm wondering if there are any reasons not to....?

Seems odd that the Golf/Leon 150 TDI's have one large one and not 2 smaller ones if 2 could do the same job.

One large one has a lot less pipe run.

True, maybe thats the reason.

I think i'll do some research on this and figure out the costs and amount of work as in theory it should be worth while.

The longer the pipework the greater the Turbo Lag afaik but I might be wrong.

Simon

Is that because of the heating effect do you think or down to the length of the pipework making it harder to suck the air?

Would be interested on peoples thoughts about this (sorry to hijack the thread)

The TT audi has 2 SMIC's as per the Fabia's standard intercooler AFAIK.
