Camber issues!!

Featured Replies

What? So there must be an opening for someone to create some adjustment either at the bottom end or some of these fancy adjustable top mounts - I'd have thought these fancy top mounts would be the way forward - hurt the wallet though - but so does changing front tyres early! I always thought that the extra roughly 1.0mm clearance in the TCA outer end and the same roughly 1.0mm clearance on the bottom swivel and anything you can find on the consoles, would be enough to sort out standard suspension anyway. (very expensive time wise though I'd have thought until you've done quite a few)

I know what your saying and KW produce an adjustable top mount for it, but how many people on here would want to shell out an extra £200+ on top of the cost of buying the suspension?

Very few at a guess!

Let alone KW having a lead time of roughly 3 weeks for having them made.

After fitting coilovers and 18's to my car i have major camber problem on the front, and now wearing tyres out far to quickly! . Is there such a camber kit made for the FABIA VRS? or any methods around this happening?

Cheers Dean

Mine wore out the front Contis unusually. There was 1-2mm more wear on the inside rather than the outside edge. Normally, my tyres get roundabout-itis which means the front tyres both wear the LH side so this was slightly "new".

The front camber changes (more negative camber) when the car is lowered. Unless you have a detailed 2 wheel or 4 wheel alignment done. And mostly all that will do is to make the wear "even". I guess the 18s won't help as the sidewalls will be short and exacerbate the problem.

Phone around for quotes and suggestions on alignment. You should be able to vastly improve matters. Not just the tyre wear situation.

J.

Have you fitted wider tyres and/or different offset wheels than standard? If so, then standard toe adjustment will be wrong because the wheel and tyre changes will increase the torque turning the front wheels around the steering axes.

Bottom line, Ross is right as usual, and you need a full geometry check, done by someone who's used to working on modified cars.

Get a print out of a 4 wheel alighnment and post it up.

Exactly the same tracking gear as we have

I envy you, the alignment gear you can use on a two post ramp is awesome, far better than the set up we have at our dealer.

Im sure you can do as good job, mainly recomended APS as they are local to the OP.

i will try to get the car in with APS a.s.a.p next week i changed the origianl wheels to replica lambo wheels running a stretch 215/35/18 tyre but the wheels are either 8J or 8.5J cant remember.

will and of this help and more?

When i had the oem 16's on it scrubbed the inner out a little more that outer but nothing major (something i can live with), just now i have the new 18's on its killing the tyres !

I've got my car booked in to get the full caster camber setup at a local garage, the guy said it will take about an hour to do and i'll get a print out of the camber before and after its done, will try and post up the pics when its done

its getting done hear: AG Motorsport

i would be very interested to see know more details on this and a price!

well I'm going on friday at 3 to get it done. leving the car with the guy, al try and get the results posted up as soon as its done for you mate.

the price is £45+vat

well turns out a couldn't get the caster camber done on my car today. the guy started doing it but then found that the car needed the front wishbone rear bushes replaced and the anti roll bar link bushes done! so the camber issues have to wait!

watch this space for the results though!

How are they planning on adjusting the castor/camber?

Just done my wishbone bushes front and rear and the taken it in for an alignment.

Results

.........................LH .................RH

Total toe................... +00 08

Half Toe .........+00 05 ...........+00 04

Camber ..........-01 03 .............-00 57

Max Dif .....................-00 06

Set back ....................+00 17

Any idea what all this means and if its been done correctly they only changed the Toe and the total toe and Max dif on the camber are both green and fall within the limits although the camber is red and outside the limits from the data although max difference is ok. But as has been said I'm guessing the camber is unadjustable without obviosuly undoing every nut and bolt and realigning everything is that right???
