Camber issues!!

Featured Replies

After fitting coilovers and 18's to my car i have major camber problem on the front, and now wearing tyres out far to quickly! . Is there such a camber kit made for the FABIA VRS? or any methods around this happening?

Cheers Dean

will be your tracking not camber.

ive run 17's and 18's and they're both fine and i think im lower down than you

Well i have had my tracking checked, not a problem there.

also i cant go anylower on my coilovers so hardly much height difference really???

It will be the adjustment "toe" that will be causing your tyres to wear.

If both wheels have positive toe they will be trying to pull away from each other, casing this wear.

I take it the wear is on the inside of the tyre? And how quickly is it wearing?

Funny that your tracking has been done and its still wearing.

You can get camber shims for the rear, but however thats not your problem.

Hi Dean

Check your front wishbone bushes ( tracking is set static ) worn bushes cause the rear of the front wheels to move inward once you are moving causing wear on the inner edge of the front tyres.

Yup , as has been said

I had problems with mine wearing tyres and the wishbone bushes had seen better days and also caused the tyres to wear quickly

OK on the wishbone bushes issue, i had Jabba do the cupra bushs and powerflex polybushs? does this had anything to do with it!

im having a real dilemma !

The wear on the tyres is on the inside, and since putting the wheels on the tread on the inside edge is down to canvas ! but rest of trye has prenty of tread and have only been on the car around 2months.

Have you had the tracking checked or four wheel alignment?

Whole world of difference.

my fabia has the same problem with mine down on 17"s. the tyre wear is something else on the inside of the tyres!!!

been told its the camber aswell

yes had four wheel alignment done when fitting the coilovers, then went to jabba had all the bushes uprated then had my tracking checked all is well.......... so they said !!!

You would have had four wheel alignment done after your bushes were fitted then, do you have the print out for the alignment?

NO sorry dnt have the read out, i have already had the alignment checked after having the bushes fitted.

And what was the camber of the front wheels?

  • Author

they didnt tell me that, long story was that the alignment was out after having the bushes changed so they corrected it but continoud to scrub out tyres. just by looking down from the arch dwn the face of the wheels u can see major camber angel!

Dnt know wat else to do........... driving me round the bend!

Yes that is where i shell be going anyway they fitted my coilover, re-mapped it and service my car. they are handy to have near me !

The inside of my tyres are wearing quicker than the outside aswell, not majorly fast though but Im having the tracking checked on monday as it wasnt done when it had the coilovers fitted :(

Get yourself over to APS in Brackley, not to far away.

Nathan and the boys have the latest Beisbarth wheel alignment set up and have set up many track cars (Nathan used to prep cars for the GTi Cup etc) and they can advise you what you need to do to correct the problem.

Exactly the same tracking gear as we have

On the fabias there isnt any adjustment for front camber so pritty much what it has got is what it will have from factory!

Why dont you try raising the height of the car by half an inch and try it then? Could be it is too low?

What? So there must be an opening for someone to create some adjustment either at the bottom end or some of these fancy adjustable top mounts - I'd have thought these fancy top mounts would be the way forward - hurt the wallet though - but so does changing front tyres early! I always thought that the extra roughly 1.0mm clearance in the TCA outer end and the same roughly 1.0mm clearance on the bottom swivel and anything you can find on the consoles, would be enough to sort out standard suspension anyway. (very expensive time wise though I'd have thought until you've done quite a few)

Are you sure that you should not take the advice that Lummox has been issuing and maybe just forget wasting money on tracking - and put that money towards a full four wheel re-alignment, you are after all changing the suspension to improve your car, now that these new springs etc have settled down it would be a good time to optimise the geometry.

I wont be wasting my money though when its free  lol

My tyre wear isnt that bad but its still doing it, Ill get it sorted one way or another :D

That sounds like the only way round it is to get it checked!

Just cant get round how its scrubbed them out so quickly over what 2 months right down to canvas on the inside and nearly new tread on the rest of the tyre?????!!!!!!!!!!
