Superb 2 with 1.4 DSG

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if Skoda have any plans to bring out DSG version for the 1.4 turbo

The new 2009 Octavia has this option and uses less fuel and has a lower CO2 than the manual. The brochure quotes 6.3 ltr / 100km which is about 45mpg on combined cycle.

CO2 for manual is 154 and 147 for the DSG

The manual is 3 less than a Superb

Having driven a 2ltr 140 DSG, I was very impressed with this auto but cheapest DSG Superb is £18275 giving the fuel economy I am looking for

i would imagine the 1.4 feels a bit underpowered in the superb.

Obviously not as quick as 1.8 Turbo or 2.0 170 CR but quite a bit quicker than the 1.9 TDi.

Currently have a Focus ST tuned to 271 hp 0-60 in 5.9 sec. Nothing will be as quick as this !!!

I'm looking to reduce my running costs, the ST only gives 30mpg if you are very gentle 17mpg if you thrash it.

I've found recently that I hardly use the performance any more, more often I drive my wife's diesel Focus 1.6 90hp. When just running around to town and collecting kids the performance is fine.

However I want a bigger car so why I am looking at the Superb

It will either be the 1.9 TDi 'S' or Greenline or the 1.4 TSI 'S'

Diesel 0-60 is 12.5 sec and 1.4 petrol is 10.5 sec. Having a turbo will also give it reasonable in gear acceleration.

I would love what you are getting, 1.8 TSi DSG, but it is more than I want to spend

It's a no brainer lads, the 1.4 in manual spec does the same mpg as the 1.8 DSG.

Combined mpg cycle

1.4 41.5

1.8 DSG 34.4

Škoda

Says roughly 31 mpg from each on urban.

i would be concerned about it revving too high at cruising speeds. depends on how the gearing is sorted but noramally an engine with a smaller displacement will rev higher.

the 1.8TSi DSG isnt that expensive if you get a nice dealer and then screw every last penny out of him !!! LOL (sorry James !)

Yeah lets do that, do you wanna use the hammer on him or the screwdriver?

How much James? .....£21754 otr sir ......spark up the drill.....vizzzz vizzzzz viizzzzz....argh argh aaaaaaargh, ok 10k and I'll fill it up and tax it.

Imagine.

If the gearbox is exactly the same, 7-speed DSG, as it appears to be, both engines running at the same speed will rev the same, for example at 100 mph the revs will be 4000 rpm (invented numbers, but they are valid as an example).

I think the main difference between 1.4 and 1.8 will be the in gear acceleration; that's obvious, once you know a bigger engine means bigger torque ;). But for anyone that doesn't want exhilarating performance, doesn't "need" an Elegance and it's not going to cruise motorway at high speed, the 1.4 TSI 8with or without DSG) could be a quite reasonable option.

Last week a had the chance of making a short trip on a Octavia 1.4 TSI DSG and it runs very well (and smooth :D).

While both engines may have the same basic DSG Box, They may well have different gearing to allow for the power outputs of the engines, often done by just fitting a lower final drive ratio to the box. I am not saying in this case that is a fact, but just both having a 7-speed DSG does not mean they will pull the same revs at the same speed.

I've been looking for this but I haven't found anything. The "new" (facelifting) Octavia doesn't offer the DSG gearbox for the 1.4 TSI engine, it's only available with the 6-speed manual gearbox.

You may be right (in fact, fitting a lower final drive ratio to the box should be a clever option), but I think the difference shouldn't be too big because the lower consumption of the 1.4 engine comes from his lower cylinder capacity compared to the 1.8 engine.

Anyway, all of this is "to theorize" :D : at least for the moment, Skoda is not going to release the DSG with the 1.4 engine ;)

Try that now, I had one too many 'http' in the line

I asked this last week at my local Skoda dealer and they told me that (at least in Spain) the 1.4 engine wasn't going to be available with the DSG gearbox.

Just come off the phone to Skoda UK

They have confirmed to me that they have no plans to bring the 1.4TSi DSG in to the UK even though it is available in Europe

That disappoints me as I would seriously consider this in preference to a diesel mainly on cost grounds.

He also said that the 2009 facelift Octavia would be released in Decemeber or January but again the 1.4TSi DSG will not be available here.

The 1.8TSI DSG will only go into L&K models

Oh well, back to the drawing board!!

I'd be surprised if the 1.8 DSG is not available at least in the Elegance Octavia othewise there'll be no petrol auto.

I for one would definitely get a superb 1.4DSG if it was available.

There will be a petrol Octavia auto

1.8TSI petrol with DSG auto box but only available in the expensive Laurent and Klemin version

Talking to a Skoda dealer this afternoon......

If I bought a 1.4TSi they would NOT take it back in part exchange in 3 years time. He said although it makes economic sense, low price, low CO2, good mpg, good performance etc everyone will go for a diesel.

All 14 Superb 2's they have sold are diesel.

This is leading me back to a diesel

Went to look at the new Renault Megane the other day, the dealer told me that Renault are selling ONLY diesel Megane's here in Ireland, and as far as he knew the new Laguna Coupe will only be brought in diesel form also,

My point exactly.

Sad, funny how the diesel endoctrination is strong.

I can't believe they would they that they wouldn't take it in as part exchange after 3 years. Seems a bit ridiculous to me.
