very sad how people get steamrollered in buying diesel. Diesel does not make sense for everyone. what happened to choice !

That's because in France diesel fuel is cheaper, so manufacturers over there tend to favour these engines as they will be the ones selling.

In UK, it makes a lot less sense because of the inverted price delta.

That said, the stupid CO2 centric tax system (what about NOx emissions!!) weight a bit stronger towards diesel, especially for company cars.
