Not happy!

Featured Replies

Had my brand new MAF and new coolant sensor fitted by my dealer late this afternoon (yeah, it was the coolant one K :D)

Car was really nice and was back to how it should be - if anything it being right felt quite odd, having driven it "dodgy" for some fair time now.

Trouble was about half a mile from home, the boost suddenly starts to vary erratically then it just stops boosting on "foot to the floor" then just as I pull into my drive it emits a HUGE bellow of smoke, just like it did before. :(

SO basically despite the replacement of these sensors, something is still amiss in there - Will have to take it back to the dealer in the morning, and get them to take another look at the ECU, and maybe check that turbo pipe mentioned on here.

One thing they did mention was my front anti roll bar was on the way out but they could fit a recently modified one, which used metal ends instead of plastic. So, that'll need doing soon'ish. BUT now this choking/boost problem has got my attention and I'm worried about what it is NOW!

it emits a HUGE bellow of smoke

Disregarding the seriousness and major personal annoyance that this problem will be bringing you, which I fully understand and sympathise with, do we have to avoid all diesel gags or can we throw some in about now?

I still maintain what i said before.

A LOT more smoke than usual ;) Normally I can't see it, but these clouds of smoke eclipse the sun! :D

EDIT: Split pipe Ross? Can you re-iterate the exact techie thingy, please? For tomorrow's return? Would it take some time for the car to realise this split and put it into safe mode? It felt so good having a working MAF and coolant sensor that I was sure it wouldn't die again, and look what it did! :(

also, is it a non-fault generating problem? None there now to give a clue.

If a pipe is leaking or split id expect to see an overboost fault logged in the engine ECU.

Get them to check the push connections on all of the turbo pipes. What normally happens is the metal sleeve on the end of the pipe comes away from the rubber, and even though they are clipped in under full boost they can let by which causes the smoke as it over fuels like a bastid.

I dont really know much else that would cause excessive smoke unless maybe one of you PD injectors is dribbling and not sealing properly.

 Ross - I'll get them to take a look - was no overboost logged when it was doing this before so will check other possibilities.

Got the car booked in at the dealers to be left there all day Monday.

Not much change this afternoon - quick trip into town, and had the chokey / smokey thing at low revs & lower speeds, but once over 2500RPM the car came alive and boosted away into the distance, no smoke, just speed! :D This one has me flumoxxed.
