Definitive answer to wiper relay question

Featured Replies

iirc you can switch off the rain sensing bit with vag com if thats what you trying to do and save buying a new relay so when you sell it you can switch it back on. im not sure about the next bit (vrstu should know) but i think you can adjust the rain sensitivity with vagcom to in the long coding.

Im not sure about VAGCOM but last time I looked with VAS5051B it wasnt listed.

It's the soft coding part of rain sensor module. And like blackspaven wrote, the effect is non-existent to minimal. So not worth tweaking.

OK, appologies folks. Seems my stalk is broken as I have 4 clicks

Off to the dealers we go....

Ross is correct.

If your stalk has rain sensor AND normal intermittant, I wouldn't be getting it 'fixed'!

TBH i cant find any fault with auto wipers. If they do go mental, simply off and on and all's well.

The stalk was faulty and has been replaced. Something broken inside causing the extra click which could have wiped out the auto wipers from working correctly.

I understand it's subjective, but i'd like more control over them if that's the only option you have available to you. I didn't choose them, they were on there as a pre-requisite option. They're just too sensitive for me... and a lot of other people by the sounds of it.

Sorry for a little veer off topic (please don't shoot me Blackspaven). My wife has a 2006 Golf with auto wipers which are fantastic. Don't operate when you don't want them and when you do, they are less 'erratic' (i.e. when you just want gentle intermittent in light drizzle, you get it without the occasional bursts of full blast that I seem to get on my Octy). Now the sensor type on the golf is different from my Octy...Question is, would this work on the Octy?

 Just to add a bit to the debate - my wife has a 2008 Golf with auto wipers and the same sensor as the 2007 Octavia. The wipers on the Golf are fine with none of the illogical behaviour that plagues the Octavia.
