Er, hello, the Starship Enterprise was the lead character in a sci-fi TV series, with the 'fi' standing for 'fictional'.

I was talking about a kind of TV technology.

The preceding posts should have been a clue.

And anyway, you try making plasma in the frigid vacuum that is space and let me know how you get on.

Unless you are a sun, of course.

Agreed.

LCDs can only ever manage a 'Not Really Black, Is It, More Of A Dark Grey To Be Honest, Hole'.

Not nearly as catchy.

Er, don't you mean it was a "prop"?

Thanks for explaining the definition of "fi", I thought it stood for "fidelity" and hence that's why there was never any sex in the show!

For at home and not the kit which sadly sits in the loft most of the time these days, I have a pioneer sound set up and am happy with the Samsung lcd, who I have to say do very good "black" for LCD. But I what I now really want is one of these

Quite possibly the best Christmas present ever!

I was watching I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here tonight and I found some of the jungle babble unexpectedly enlightening.

Turns out David Van Damme and Timothy Mallett both have 37' LCDs at home, while Mr George Sulu has a 42' plasma.

Nuff said. ;)

Dont know which is worse. The fact that you actually felt need to post this, or that your watching that rubbish. kind of questions credibilty

I will set a challenge for the TV knowledgable set.....

The TV I am interested in back on whatever page of this thread is a 37. The challenge is to find a 40 inch with the same or better features than that 37, for around about the same price.

The Panasonic 42” Plasma is around the same price as the 37”

I would be pushing it going to 40 in my lounge. I really can't go to 42, otherwise the Panasonic would be the one to go for :(. It's cheaper than the 37 in some places too.

But it’s only a teeny bit wider than a 40”. The number is a diagonal measurement across the screen, not a side to side type measurement, so it would be just as easy to fit in as a 40” (well almost). If in doubt, get the 37” Panny:thumbup:

Ah, I might be a little incorrect there.:o I just did a bit of pen and paper maths (well pencil and gas bill maths actually) and I think the 42” is 1.7” wider than the 40”. I would need someone to confirm this though,

Er, don't you mean it was a "prop"?

A prop!?

No sex?

I think you must have been watching another show, as on Star Trek, Captain Kurt had a sexy time with just about every alien he met, particularly that green one.

I so love this post and its unintentional irony.

What is it about the room that won't permit a 42-incher?

The 42" I have has actually gone UP £100 since I bought it.

Gotta love the Millennium Falcon remote as well.:cool:

The room is on the small side. The (minimum) viewing distance is just about right for the 37, so that's what I mean about pushing it to go for a 40.

When looking how big the different sized sets are in the flesh I just know it wouldn't look right (42). We also offered up the tape measure to the wall on the actual dimensions of the 37 and this seemed big in itself, for the room.

No offence to anyone on here, but I just get the chav vibe with the bigger you go.

Remember though Conine, a 37" set isn't 37" wide, they are quite a bit narrower, as 37" relates to the diagonal distance from corner to corner. :)

Who? :D

Thanks Tom, but I know. That's why I said that we used the actual measurements ;)

I thought you probably did, didn't intend to come across all patronising like! :P

Did you read any of the earlier posts……ie mine? :rolleyes:And to think I went to all the trouble of working out the distance across the tv:(

Sometimes I agree with Grumpy. He often wonders why I bothered (I think that’s what he meant?)
