Car ideas please?

Featured Replies

Looking for a used diesel automatic for other half. Must be reliable, ideally smaller than the Octavia, around the 6k mark (for less than 40,000 miles).

Ideas?

We've had a look at the Mitsubishi Colt but ruled it out on account of interior look and feel... :(

So far the Octavia is the only one that comes close but it is a bit too big really. Also thought about a Merc A160 but reliability seems to be an issue...?

Thanks.

don't think there are many diesel automatics.

F-In-L was looking for one and ended up with an Altea DSG, after finding that combination only in the VAG group, BMW, Merc or Volvo.

But that was for Octy-size.

not sure about smaller

A quick search on autotrader has turned up..

Focus mk2

Toyota Yaris

Golf Mk4

and...

Renault Vel Satis.. :D

I was going to say Skoda Felicia then I read diesel auto.

There isnt a Fabia diesel auto is there? or a Polo?

Do you really need a Diesel with the current fuel prices? Hyundai i110 1.2 Auto petrol has had good press and is economical and fairly low tax. It's new but not really dear:worth considering if you can stretch a few more grand: Quite perky as well otherwise little Kia Picanto is a good small auto and cheap as chips. Previous Honda Jazz is another contender but a CVT box which is a bit of an aquired taste. Very ecnomical engine in the Honda.

Thanks all.

Diesel make financial sense as we are talking more than 16,000 miles per annum and the automatic gearboxes tends to increase consumption a fair bit (which in turn chnages the road tax etc).

Some moer models there to think about though.

Fabia DSG would be perfect... if it existed!

Audi A3 diesel automatic?

Yes but they few and far between at the 6k mark unfortunately ;)

What about...

54 plate Bora 1.9TDi Highline Auto done 27,000 miles in Reflex Silver?

Could your other half live with a Smart car? I know they're not diesel, but they return diesel economy and are auto by default.

The newer ones have micro hybrid drive which improves on fuel efficiency even further.

How bout a Punto 1.3JTD, Corsa 1.3CDTi, C3 1.4HDi all well under £6K and 40k miles

I thought he specified reliable? :P

Don't even think about it. Unlike pretty much everyone else on here I'll bet, I've driven a smallish diesel automatic (1.9l non-turbo), and it offers nothing worthwhile in economy or relaxation, has next to no acceleration (my exact words to the owner were "it doesn't have enough power to get out of its own way").

I think you may well be right. I'll just have to convince her that the Octavia 1.9 TDI DSG is the way to go...

Thats quite a good call.

What about G-Wiz?

What about G-Wiz?
