Pollen filter housing repair

Featured Replies

the guy told me I don't need to do this because must have been done already as my car is quite new.

Can he prove it has been done? if not then get it done/re-done.

Do you think that can be correct? because from the VW bulletin it looked like they only do it only after the leak happens (when the damage is already done). Not as preventive maintenance.

Exactly

Do you think Skoda has a more proactive approach?

 That's a good one, you got any more crackers like that one?

Do you think t hey could have done it as part of routine service even though nobody asked for it?

Possibly, highly doubtful though as it's not part of any service (clearing plenum chamber should be, but not re-sealing the filter housing.)

Can any of you guys confirm or deny this? Is it possible cars from 2005/05 onwards won't have this problem?

Why should they not suffer from it? it's a bad design with the only thing that might of changed is the fitment of the better seal out of the factory, but unless i knew for certain that my car had the improved seal i would still want it changed.

VAG don't give a toss about this - the B5.5 is an obsolete model and the problem affects RHD cars far more than LHD. This explains why our more distant friends on this Forum have not heard of the problem. A better climate might help...

No dealer is going to proactively replace the filter housing seal - if dealers addressed the weak points on these cars they would run almost for ever.

Find out what's involved and do it yourself - removing the two plenum bungs at the same time.

Here it all is - in its grubby entirety - thanks VAG:

rotodiesel.

I have a 2008 Superb, and the Pollen Filter seal was the same as the two previous ones - (54 and 06) reg. So as Rotodiesel rightly says, VAG don't give a toss about this particular car.

I have replaced each of my pollen filter seals, prevention being better than cure, it is a half hour job with the right tools.
