Jabbasport - good news!

Featured Replies

This really follows on from my thread "remap/rechip" but I wanted to get everyones attention.......

.......anyway just had a chat with Mike (I think) at Jabbasport and they said that for 5 cars we would get a 10% discount on a remap!

That's

Hello there,

Organising a rolling road day at Jabbasport on the 24th May, so (if you havent already organised it) you might find a couple of members will be looking for a remap after the visit!

Thats a good discount from Jabbasport, considering their prices are good value anyway.

Already Jabbachipped and v happy - sure you will be too!

Is that remap the one where you can flick the car back to factory settings for any services / repairs? I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment anyway, but would be interested if the remap is the one which can be reset... :D I've got my insurance renewal coming up soon, so I think spending

Unfortunately Jabba don't do the switchable ECU settings although the do have a boost switch whihc allows you to set what every boost level you want.

REVO and APR do the switchable settings.

Cheers.

Adrian.

As above, mine is just a standard remap, so I cant switch it off.

But I do have a switch for switching the tuning box on!

I think I'm gonna have to pass - However, if I win a decent sum of cash on the lottery in the next few days I'll be up for it - I'd not want to have any probs in the next year until my warranty runs out and my dealer screws me for fiddling with the engine. I think I'll have to think about this nearer the time (warranty runs out June 2004 - drop me a line then)

PS: I could afford it if anyone out there wants a 1997 Proflex 957 MTB in exchange for a remap - :D Since getting my Skoda I've been riding my bike a lot less - strange thing that. not!

Although I have not yet taken delivery of mine, I'm keen to have it remapped by Jabbasport as soon as the warranty runs out (in 18 months, sigh). Unless ofcourse someone can point me to a dealer in the Bucks area who will turn a blind eye when serviceing it. When I casually mentioned a remap to Merritts they looked at me as if they saw water burning... Or is there a secret handshake I need to learn ;) ?

Q.

Unfortunately beyond my meager means at the moment. Buying a new PC wiped out my bank account :(

Forgot to say that there is no time lmit on this.

If there is a common consensus to have a remap done say in 2-3 months then that's fine by me.

However I would rather it be sooner than later as I'm impatient.;):D

I maybe interested but I need to talk to Jabba about the benefits of remapping my RS (see remap thread). If its worth it I would be insterested in having the remap carried out within a month.

Nothing like optomism is there.:D

A 97 Proflex 957? which ark did that come out of. ( I bet all the elastomers have died in the fork and rear shock unit)

Your better off keeping it and getting back out on it m8, I have the similar probs with an Orange Clockwork and Marin full susser which is still ridden hard :D

Cheers

Luckily, when I got it second hand, it had a brilliant set of PACE suspension forks, which are still working very well now. As for the rear shock I dunno if its shot or not - It still goes up and down which is what I suppose all that matters to me :D I guess I'd better get back on it and put some effort into getting some good exercise. Having a car at your disposal is not good for cycle / drive decision making... I must try and ride it more to tennis club nights... maybe :D

Jabba do an adjustable boost controller which you can 'allegedly' turn right down to standard boost and remove from the car prior to servicing in no time at all:D

There were none available when my car went in the other week, but I may have another visit just before the next service.

By the way, how come Skoda / VAG have their HQ in Milton Keynes but no dealership. I don't know if anyone has used Forward Motors in Luton but they are a very high turnover dealer so more likely have serviced 'tuned' cars ?

Fabpreza,

i spoke to Marlborough ages ago about chipped cars & warranty

and they did'nt have a problem with them.

Steve

Keep me in mind, as you say I am off to the RR day at jabba in a few weeks. No dought I will come away wanting to be chipped.

The problem with Pace forks is that the seals go and they go all clunky at the top, although it may well be that your bike has a much earlier set and are probably a lot more resilient than the newer Pace,s.

Either way, when working Pace are a very nice set of forks.

Cheers

if you could get booked in for either the weeks 26-30 may or any weekday between 21 july and 8 aug then id be interested , as they are my upcoming holiday weeks , jabba really is too far away from me to travel at any other time!

But this boost controller is, I take it, placed in a location to which you have access... which means the guy doing the service can find it as well...

Anyone here who has this fitted and can shed any light on it?

Bomb technician by trade ? - explains why you are wanting to minimise risks of warranty infringement on your car ?!

To be honest, if the plug to the module (?) is in a non-obvious place, which dealer is even going to know what it is for? We are talking Skodas here and not Subarus (for example) where the dealers have got wise to the modifications over the years.

Also, if you are buying the car used, what is to stop you pleading ignorance and saying that perhaps it was something the previous owner did ? It's possible.

Or you could always make sure the car is set for variable servicing and every 16/20k(?) when it needs a service, get the original chip put back in - most tuners would do that for you.

Provided that you make sure you tell your insurers that the ECU has been remapped. Or you could accept the 180 (195) bhp as standard and not worry.

Life's a gamble but you can limit the risk.

The signature is just something I found on the net (some guy had it printed on his t-shirt), but I am serious about keeping as much as I can within warranty. Ofcourse, nearer the end of it, the more can be tried, but for now I'm stuck... unless...

I guess this is really something that I should be asking Jabbasport as they are the experts on the subject. If a switch can be placed, say, in the glove compartment or somewhere else inconspiculous (sp?) then I guess the dealer will be none the wiser either.

I'm not sure this argument will hold up, but is ofcourse worth a try :D

Now this sounds more like it.

Well, the remap is not done purely for the extra bhp (honest  ), as I hear everyone who has done it saying that the car is so much better tuned to their driving style I reckon it makes also a safer (in a weird kinda way) car to drive.

On the point of telling the insurance company, does anyone have an idea as to how much (in %) you pay more when it has been chipped/remapped?

Wise words build solid houses (as confusius might have said once ;))

It varies so much between companies that you might as well just phone them up and ask a 'what-if?' Doesn't cost to ask. Most insurers now know what an 'Engine Management System Upgrade' is and should be able to quote the effect on your premium without getting all "you got a what?"

If you imagine the price of a couple of extra groups up the insurance ladder as a shoot-me-down-in-flames guide. You may have a very friendly insurer though or one that will laugh if you say that you want to make your Skoda go quicker. :D

Hi Adrian,

Would we have to take the cars in together? If not I definately want a Jabba remap - but i want to get some other engine related bits 1st - and it makes sense to have it remapped after i mod the engine rather than before. I would be looking to get it done in 3-4 months time.......

:drive:

On the basis that all the visits don't have to be consecutive sessions or days, count me in. As I now have a Milltek its worth seeing what Mike can do.

Sorry for the tardy reply chaps...........do my mailing from work.

I believe it takes Jabba around 3 hours per remap. So I assume only 2 cars can be mapped a day (may be 3 if they really push it). So I also assume that the remaps would have to be done over a period of time.

If we can all agree a period over when we would like the work to be done then I don't see any problem.

At the moment there a 6 people who have expressed an interest. I think it's fair to say that aport from me there is still some deciding to do whether it be suitable dates, timeframe or whether actually to go ahead etc.

Right here are my thoughts:

Duncan is limited by datesand DaveU want to wiat for 3-4 months. Duncan has can make the 1st week in August which would come into Dave's timeframe. Manny has a r/r session at Jabba on the 24/5 and should he decide to want a remap woul donly have to wait a couple of months. Chrish wants flexibility on dates so I reckon a couple of weeks either side of the first week in August would be ok(?) with him. Lloyd needs to talk to Jabba to see what he wants to do and may be theses dates are too long away for him. August is fine by me.

Now if I go to Jabba a say we definately have 6 people who want remaps but we would like them done over a spread of weeks then I don't see any problem. However we must also consider that Jabba are busy and our dates will depend on when they can fit us in This may also work in our favour if someone wants it done sooner than later. Everyone keeping up.........?

So does everyone (who has expressed an interest) agree in principle with what I have proposed?

My ideal scenario here is; Lloyd definately wants the remap but doesn't want to wait until August but can hold off until Manny has been to the r/r session. Everyone else is ok with the dates and Manny is left to decide; if Manny decides "no" we still have 5 and Lloyd can (possibly) have his remap done alot sooner than the remaining 4.

Guys PM me with your replies as I don't want to clog up the forum. Ta.

Apologies to everyone else for such a long mail but I don't know to PM multiple people.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Good news from the dealer I bought the car from. According to the service department, as long as a remap is "done right" and isn't a bodge job, they're happy to honour the warranty.

Now all I need to do is raise
