Glovebox light

Featured Replies

Hi all - took the plunge & bought an 04 2.5TDi Comfort a couple of weeks ago & am very pleased with it so far.

The glovebox seem to have a light cover - but no light & no obvious bulb holder that I can see. So - I guess the question is - do these things have an illuminated glove box? If so what buld does it take & what does it fit into? There is a loose wire in the light apature with a black 'spade like' object with sprung arms....is this significant?

All replies gratefully received!

Cheers

I have the same car but Elegance and that does have illuminated glove box. Not sure if comfort spec does. Will have a look at wirinf tomorrow when it stops raining and let you know what I find out.

It's like wiring, but when your light doesn't work, it's harder to see the keyboard...:P

My poverty spec Superb does have a glove box light.

Its having big fingers and a small keyboart - see there it is a gain.

It should have one, mine does, but it's hed together by a flimsy arrangement and breaks real easy, you need to remove the glovebox to repair it.

It's been said, but my poverty spec has one as well.

Or at least it did, reading this thread has reminded me I need to fix it...

The glovebox light can be removed from within the glovebox, but during this procedure usually the switch at the bottom of the light gets caught and the spring next to the switch partly dismantles the light fixture in no time at all. Afterwards, you do need to remove the glovebox to retrieve missing lamp fixture bits (5x torx screws, 3 on top after opening the door, 2 below glovebox) and spend the next 30min trying to figure out how all the metal contacts and the plastic bits fit together with the spring.

Fiorst time I replaced that light (Octavia), I have experienced the above, the 2nd time round (Superb) I removed the entire lamp into glovebox but its switch still came apart into pieces and I had to reassemble it, but my last attempt at replacing the bulb (high power LED now, actually) from within the glovebox was successfull, so you may say there's consistent progress there :)

I suspect that as I seem only to have fists of ham these days I will be referring to this post at the weekend, so thanks in advance ;)

It sounds to me as though the previous owner tried and failed to replace the lamp. This was the case on SWMBO's car (as well as a fan full of leaves!), so I took some pictures to show how it should all go together - it's quite complicated, but clever too as there are only about 4 parts in total. Assuming the holder is the same in the Superb as in the Fabia (it was stamped VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda IIRC), then this ought to help!

Thanks for the info . The only SLIGHT problem is that with the sole exception of the lamp cover there is nothing else recognisable in the pictures!

Looks like it could be an interesting quest at the weekend!

Good luck, let us know how it goes

Get 1H0947301 for well under a tenner from a dealer, if you struggle, and replace the entire lamp.
