in dash sat nav (MFD2 type) unit fitting

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

This is my first post to this forum so please be gentle...

I have just bought an Octavia II 1.9 TDI PD Estate (Nov 2005 55reg) having driven a Felicia for several years. The car is very impressive and very new (for me).

I did not realise there was such a fan base and having lurked on this forum for a while (mainly re a leaking felicia windscreen) it is quite clear there are lots of knowledgeable people around when it comes to Skodas.

My question is has anyone fitted one of these sat nave/cd/dvd/radio packages that are available on EBay such as

Skoda Octavia? CAR DVD iPod BT & GPS Dual Zone Navi on eBay, also GPS Systems, Navigation GPS, In-Car Entertainment GPS, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 01-Dec-08 07:53:56 GMT)

I must say I am very tempted despite the cost. There is a very good article on

http://www.octavia-vrs.com/technical/mfd2.html

Can anyone advise me if the wiring etc would support the fitment of the unit above as my car has just a Skoda Stream non mp3 paler fitted and what the general opinion is regarding these units?

Many thanks in advance etc

Tom

As I said in the emails Tom, try the search with the term Witson.

There are lots of threads regarding the MFD units here, the 'very good article' is on VRStu's website, if you follow that you wont go wrong.

The stream unit is not that bad, then again not that good. I fitted a nokia blue tooth unit to my stream unit, I phoned my dealer regarding which connections to use and he faxed me the diagrams and supplied the plug.

I have considered the MFD unit and I read Stu's info & it looks a fairly straightforward swop. I think you have to change the facia trim around the unit, but I don't think that part is very expensive.

Many thanks (again) the Witson article explains all my concerns, particularly the centre console trim...There is clearly a Skoda part to fit. I am not a qualified fitter but am fairly technically minded so it looks like fitting will not be a problem so it looks will be getting one of these units........the only problem now is how to explain to the wife......lol

Moley

Yeah, got it, many thanks

Tom
