Power upgrades Vs

Featured Replies

I've been reading the forum for a while now and I'm interested to know how far you guys are willing to go with engine mods?

Basically I want to know what mods you think are worth doing and what are just soooo expensive for the gains they produce that they're really just for the 'big boys'

I'm just wondering whether to start or not ;) and when to quit!!!

For reference, I have a standard (except whiteline RARB) VRS estate

Most people will stop at a remap (plus associated necessary braking and handling upgrades), although EddyH's old 4x4 must have been somewhere up there with an eye-watering 460 bhp! For most people, insurance will probably be a bigger hurdle than outright cost, TBH...

It all depends what mood the Mrs is in

I've got a BMC CDA, Forge 007P, Whiteline RARB and Performance Torque remap. I've got a Blueflame catback waiting to go on just before Christmas. The only other 'power' mod I think I'll eventually do is a downpipe/sports cat. Other than that, I'll get a poly dog bone bush, black diamond brake discs/pads when the time comes, some AP coilovers and possibly some 17s within the next couple of years.

So (conservative estimate) about 2 grands worth then?

I guess this also depends on how competent you are with a spanner. I would love todo alot more to my car but it's going to cost me more than some others due to me getting a garage to fit parts but so far i'm around the £2k mark which is parts and labour

Well i got a Dna remap for £100, built my own FMIC for £200, Replacement Ramair filter for £18, TIP pipe for £55 and Turbo back Blueflame exhaust for £200 (secondhand).

It doesn't have to be expensive, just keep a look out for secondhand bits and don't always assume expensive is best, although sometimes it is lol.

As said if you are handy with a spanner or cheaky enough to say "how much for cash" then you will save a fortune.

I would go for the remap for bang per £.
