blew my turbo:(

Featured Replies

What options do i have to upgrade? i dont really want to replace it with another dodgy skoda one if i can get something better. i have a 170bhp remap so maybe something more suitable to that would be the best option. any advice appreciated because im torn over what do to. dont even no if i want to keep the car after this but i doubt id clear the finance especially at these difficult times so ill probably have to keep it for a while. Any one any idea what it might be worth if i did attempt to sell it. Its lowered on coilovers, black painted roof, colour coded grill 35,000 miles 2005, red, FSH, 170remap

cheers for any help guys

Whats boost is your remap requesting? Might be why your turbo went if its asking too much. Or it may be down to you not allowing the turbo to warm up and cool down before and after thrashing.

Use the search function regarding turbo's.

Yep, first question I'd ask is - who's done the remap?

Steve

Wait until Shifty breaks his car and buy his turbo :)

Or if you want to just revert to a std turbo, and then sell it, I have one available.

Steve

I wouldn't get shot of it just because the turbo went pop, mine went last year and I just had the standard turbo as I don't have a remap, but I would perhaps look for a good Garrett one or a hybrid, I wouldn't go back to standard in your case.

Mine felt alot better after the turbo was changed and the pipes cleaned out and a new intercooler (not really connected to the turbo failure but had a hole in it from a stone).

When you get it done, make sure you clean out all the pipes to and from the cooler, the cooler itself, (you would not believe the amount of oil in the bottom!!!), as you don't want any debris being sucked in or your new turbo will soon go pop again.

The KKK turbos are good and reliable if treated fairly during their life, we only get bad reports of them on here because that's what the majority are on Skoda, if Garrett were standard, we would hear about them more.

HTH :)

Safest option, new Turbo of your choice and un-map back to standard, or drop map to 150BHP. Some will shudder at that statement, but car designers tend to know what the limits are and factor in a safety margin for stressed components. In the case of raw BHP at the wheels, that's gearbox/diff/drive shafts/clutch/flywheel/turbo/crank.

Expert tuners will know how far to go, and also how to design the Map so that torque peaks are within limits. Cowboy tuners are just, er cowboys.

it was done by torquetronix. the guy seemed to no exactly what he was doing. he said he made sure the torque wasnt to much for the clutch and brought it to almost clutch slip and then mapped it below that to make sure there wouldnt be any clutch slip at all as that was my biggest worry

I've never heard of them. What figures were you actually running with this remap? Did you ever have it on a Rolling Road and get some results graphed?

Steve

Well their web site looks professional, so I guess you may have just been unlucky. Normally it will be the clutch that goes before the Turbo.

Skoda Fabia [skoda Fabia] : TorqueTronix, Bespoke, Precision Tuning

Figures are a bit optimistic:

Skoda Fabia vRs '00 onwards

Engine type : Turbo-Diesel

Engine size : 1896 cm3

Cylinders : 4

Original bhp : 130

Original nm : 310

BHP increase :50

Lb/Ft gain : 55

Depends if they start with a BLT engine :D Mines never been mapped and the Dyno shows 147 BHP from factory (Not Complaining).

I wouldn't pick my remap based on the look of the company's website, personally :)

I've seen a few "professional" companies boosting to 1.8-1.9 bar.

Usually because they havent adjusted the overboost map.

Turbo Dynamics Stage 2 FTW :)

Torquetronix in Ballymena Northern Ireland? Heard a few stories about them myself.

This is why I only ever will use you guys at JabbaSport your not the cheapest but when you take things like what this thread is about into account then you're worth every penny.

Try Ebay !!! Seen a few garrett turbo's on there in the last few weeks.

Check the specs though, then double-check them. There's an awful lot of Garrett variations, for various vehicles.
