Are there any good sites for info I can read through. I know there are a few ex scooby owners so your input is appricated.

The WRX has a 50/50 split of power (via a viscous coupling). Things I'd be looking for are a fully stamped up service book (including cambelt which iirc is at 4th/5th service) and signs that the car has been well looked after. Ie, what fuel is it run on, what state are the wheels and tyres in, is the front of the car peppered with stone chips, signs of accident damage, etc. You'll also want to ascertain if it's a UK car or an import, and whether it's wearing any modifications which may suggest it's led a hard life.

Mechanically they're pretty sound, but a few checks would be to start the car from cold and listen for any untoward noises from the engine (knocking/slapping). Also try selecting all the gears from cold to make sure they slot in smoothly.

As far as resources go, Scoobynet is probably the best one, but IWOC and SIDC are usually much more civilised places to ask questions and there tend to be local groups around too where you might find someone willing to check a car over with you...

We've run Scooby's for quite a few years and they have been one of the most reliable cars we've had. They tend to have done about 120,000 miles when they're sold (and a lot of those miles aren't gentle!)

Clutches seem ok but they are expensive when they go.

The one in my avatar knocks like hell when its started up from cold but is fine after a few minutes, so thats good advice from Scoobychris. - having said that, we've been expecting it to 'let go' for the last 15k miles but it still goes ok. (as per the briskoda awesome dyno run!)

I remember seeing it on the dyno. Thank you for the info, I've spent some time on Scooby Net today and there are so many models etc it's all a bit baffling, still it's nice to get some honest feedback to say even if they are driven hard they can still be reliable.

There certainly are a lot of models (even more if you look at the imports!). Here's a useful table for the UK variations and associated model codes...
