It depends on how long it sits at Emden before the boat sets off, obviously the boat doesn't leave until it's pretty full of cars.

Shouldn't be really long, I imagine it'll be in the UK in 10 days or so.

Thanks for that so when should I realistically expect to dive the wonder car?

Mine still due week before Christmas!!

are you going to wait till 2009 so you get an 09 car or is the excitement too much ?

Nah, that sort of thing doesn't bother me - its a Company Car, so plate value doesn't matter to me either. Just want a new car as I'm coming to it on the back of 4 years owenership of a Saab 9-3, that was finally taken back by the dealer about two months ago afer many years of shocking reliability. About 20 times in garage aside from normal services - 3 total breakdowns, 7 electric window failures.... the list goes on. (DONT BUY SAAB PEOPLE!)

Anyway, now in a used hand me down (though quite nice) Volvo V70, but I'm just eager for that new car.

how do you find the volvo. we test drove the S80 which is essentially the same car and we felt it was soooooo big. it was like a barge to drive.

I've got the V70 Estate, All Wheel Drive model. Not really my cup of tea, but it is nimble cos of the 4wheel drive. Yes, it's big, but it is also really quick and superbly built - every item inside the cabin and out feels totally solid.

Or maybe it feels that way coming from a Saab. I didn't know till I bought one, that Saab make their dashboards and trim out of those plastic trays the chocolates sit in inside a box of dairy milk...

problem with the 9-3 is that its only a vectra underneath.

...whoops there i go again "Vx bashing"..sorry !

ouch !

To be honest, the problem with my particular 9-3 was, well, pretty much everything

(electric windows 4 times, light bulbs 8 times, air con twice, radio once, door hinges once, boot release twice, alternator once, EGR valve once, bonnet release once, interior trim falling apart, seat height adjust twice, elec mirrors three times, need I go on?)

i test drove a 9-3 convertible with a view to changing my passat and BMW convertible for one car i could use all year round. I wasnt that impressed to be honest. the driving position didnt suit and the wind turbulance with the roof down was bad (i am used to convertibles and have driven a few and this was worse than my 20 yr old beemer)
