A Haldex controller for 4x4 owners

Featured Replies

Here is some light reading for 4x4 owners about Haldex v Torsen. RS owners might also like to read it to see what they are missing out on.

And a bit more info from the manufacturers web site:

The Haldex Limited Slip Coupling is a self-contained compact, mechanical hydraulic unit with an integrated electronic control unit (ECU) and associated software produces increased safety, performance and driving comfort.

Full compatibility with brake control (ABS), traction control (TCS) and stability control (ESP) is achieved without the need for additional components such as electromagnetic clutches or the freewheeling devices used in many AWD vechicles.

The Volkswagen Group (VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda) is the first major manufacturer to integrate the Haldex AWD-system.

Currently VW has introduced the Haldex AWD-system on following vehicle models:

Is it possible to "chip" the haldex ECU? Reason I ask is that on the Evo 7 you can get the AYC ECU remapped.

I haven't seen any threads on that topic elsewhere, so I doubt it. I did read on Audi-Sport.net that the Haldex ECU costs

Just found the adjustable Haldex Controller on Forge Motorsport's site at:

Which of our intrepid chipped 4x4 owners is going to take the plunge and really wipe the smile off chipped RS owners' faces?

Denis,

Thankyou for that info. Ian and I have been debating the haldex ecu, or certianly how to get information from it, ie showing us when and where the power is been put.

I really like the way the car performs using the haldex, i.e. almost invisble.

If this module could be switched then umm haldex mod or brakes, haldex or brakes...

One of the only ways that you can monitor as to whether the Haldex clutch is dis / engaging on a standard car is to switch to "current fuel consumption" on the display below the tachometer - on entering a corner at speed you trigger the Haldex mechanism whereupon you will see the fuel gauge suddenly drop about 25% .......... and then recover when out of the corner ....... at least that is my interpretation of the change .

Also agree with the article quoted above saying that the Haldex cars in anything other than in extremis , give a very nice rear wheel drive feel on exiting a corner which I feel certainly helps the estate car .......have never driven the saloon equivalent .

I just wonder if Forge Motorsport would like to lend a Haldex controller to someone on this site to review? It would be a good kick start to getting the product reviews section going.

Fuel gauge, I had not looked at that while trying to get the haldex to trigger, normally looking to heaven with the wet and rapidly wearing tyres.

We were thinking along the lines of a small bar (or two for left/right) display, just to indicate front and rear power transfer.

Denis,

Maybe...one can but ask I guess. From looking at it it seems to be a "add on" rather than replacement, you have me thinking now :D

...very cool controller, but would be interesting to see how the car handled with 50/50 split.

I'm actually quite fond of the way the haldex throws power around, gentle drifting \ oversteer throttling out of a corner is (childishly:D) rather fun, and the almost FWD on long journeys \ cruising brings the fuel consumption up....

Hmm, the only way of knowing would be to do a hard wet run with it installed, but at

must agree with you on that one tavia m8 , a
