New Donnington Layout

Featured Replies

Looks like a few good circuits from the single design.

I really hope they put some proper seating in though and not the half a*sed scaffold structures that seem so popular at silverstone etc.

I think I preferred the original design which seemed to just straighten out Foggy's, and move Goddard's away fron the start line towards the top right corner of the plan.

Its also I understand the intention for the GP to park people off site & bus them in, possibly parking at the Airport.

Im not 100% on the old layout but with the new hasnt foggies gone ???

Well planning has been defered until mid 2009.

Cant see them being ready for June 2010. They'd have had to have started by now.

F1 wont happen next year anyway... let alone 2010........

I'm talking about the original sketch which appeared about British GP time, not the referenced plan.

Hmmm , from the point of view of watching it on TV this looks like a good layout , but they'll lose a lot of the infield spectating areas which is going to spoil it for people who actually attend.

I really like being able to wander round and take photos from several different places in the same day which won't be so easy now.

There still seems to be some doubt if there will be enought money for the project & getting in & out of the circuit is another issue.

Even if it's going to be at the Airport it's going to be a traffic nightmare. That section of the M1 is one of the worst bits of motorway I know of.

Anyone who went to the '07 Renault series or motoGP event will testify how bad it is.

Even with the money, they have a LOT of work to do in 12 months whilst still hosting events. It's a really tight schedule which cant have any issues at all!

I've seen talk about having the car parking in places like Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, London..., and getting to Donnington by a fly-bus shuttle. I think I see a logistical problem with that too.

I think describing it as Logistical is being polite !

Seen a quote in a paper today

Ecclestone saying "he doesn't care if its not ready for 2010 as there are plenty of other countries waiting in the wings"

I liked Ron Dennis' quote regarding Donnington whilst speaking at the annual Sid Watkins lecture last Friday:

"I don't understand how we are going to get in and out of the place, although I can tell you I will be in a helicopter!"

There some rumours going around at the moment that one the banks funding Donington development has pulled the plug.

Fresh British Grand Prix dent: There are growing reports that one of the major banks behind Donington Park's redevelopment plan to host the British Grand Prix in 2010 has pulled the plug because of the escalating financial crisis.

That leaves circuit bosses with a massive shortfall which looks set to be worsened still after being told that further improvements are needed to the track.

Last week, Donington Park lost its circuit licence from the Motor Sports Association because of an issue over the run-off area following tunnel work there. It is thought new work will run into the millions to get their licence back and fix the problem, further exacerbating their current financial difficulties.

Oook , that's not good

It never was/is going to happen really.

So that's why they lost motogp? Because they lost their licence?

2 different issues; Motorcycle and Motorcar racing in the UK are licenced by different bodies.

So both bodies pulled their licence?

Does this mean Donnington wont be used for anything this year?
