Cruise control stalk

Featured Replies

In September last i had a new stalk fitted under warranty and in October the warranty run out, now the control is going intermittant ie works then does not.Now this Monday coming its going in for service so do you think they will replace it f o c ?.

Certainly worth asking.

The cruise on my Octy II started to play up last year ie. I would engage and then cruise would automatically diengae, or I could not engage cruise in the first place. My car was outside of the warranty when this occurred, however, as it is leased from HSBC, they picked up the tab for a new lefthand stalk assembly. Since then, it has been OK. I wonder if this is a common problem? My car will be four years old next February and has now covered 111,000 miles (actually had 111,111 miles on the mileometer today which was novel; how sad is that!).

It might not be the switch at fault, could be a faulty brake light switch for example.

We have had this on the Seat Alteas as well. If out of warranty, the stalk switch can be taken apart and the contacts cleaned. i had my first one replaced under warranty and then about 10 months ago it played up again, just out of warranty, so i took the switch apart, cleaned it and its been okay since.

IIRC there was a batch of faulty CC stalks. If the replacement one they fitted was one of the faulty ones then they might consider replacing it with one of the "new" ones that have the problem fixed. As VRStu said it can't hurt to ask the question.

Hi,

I'm booked in next week to get the cruise control stalk replaced. My car's a 06 plate VRs which I just bought last weekend, only 10k on the clock and also still under warranty.

Interestingly the garage said they wouldn't be able to fit the replacement on a weekend, due to the fact that the car had to be linked up to the computer and something 'authorised' by Skoda HQ - they said that this never works on a Saturday  Anyone else been told this?

Cheers

Scott

No need to program anything when changing just the stalk. Doesn't take long either.

Hmmm, I thought that as well, I'd imagin when they first fit cruise that theres a need to do something with the ECU but not for just replacing the stalk. The chancers!:)
