Removing B pillar trim

Can anyone provide any guidance on removing the upper B pillar trim (where the seatbelt comes through). It looks like it probably just pulls straight off, towards the centre of the car?

I've had mine off but I can't remember exactly how. I think I just got my fingers under and pulled. You have to be careful that the seat belt height adjust mechanism goes back properly otherwise it won't work.

It's an a r se of a job, as Jonno says the seatbelt slider is a pain. Some pretty hefty clips which may require some leverage from the back. Try starting from the door rubber and rolling it back.

Okay, just had a go. A few scary moments so, for future searchers' reference:

The trim panel has two clips at the top, almost in the centre, going straight into the B-pillar. These can be released by getting your fingers behind the panel at the top centre, and pulling gently but very firmly towards you.

Once the top clips are out (or almost out), grab the panel about an inch from the bottom, on either side where it meets the rubber seals. Poke your fingers behind the rubber trim and (as Stu said) peel the sides outwards - it's pretty flexible. There's 2 horizontal metal "prongs" attached to the car body that the trim clips behind. You're trying to release the plastic sides outwards enough so that you can pull the panel forwards, clear of the clips.

Refitting is direct reversal of removing but more fiddly! As Johno mentioned, you've got to locate the sliding panel back into the actual mechanism behind, but it's not too hard - just lock them both at the top and be patient.

Any photos?

Sorry to hijack, whats the bottom one like to remove? (trim)

Sorry - didn't stop to take pics as I was working in the dark and just wanted the piece of trim off and back on quickly to add some foam strips - to help with a rattling noise. I know a picture speaks a thousand words, but there wasn't much to see anyway!

As for the lower trim - sorry I dont know as I've never had that one off.

to help with a rattling noise.

What was the noise coming from and did you sort it?

I think it was contributing to the rattling, yes, but mainly it was the window connector (my other thread). I've still got the door cards off at the moment so it's hard to say whether I've got rid of all the noises until I put it all back together. (will report back when I do!)

While I had the B-pillar trim off (only done one side so far), I've padded all the "mating surfaces" with sticky foam strips although in hindsight, you could probably just about do this without removing the trim by just poking the foam in from the bottom/sides.

I've still got some way to go as I work from the front of the car backwards but the general improvement in noises, for the sake of about £10 spent is incredible - I'm really pleased.

All these noises are really irritating.

I think I got to the bottom of most, but theres still one on the passangers side that annoys me, not sure if its the Doorcard, Dash or Windscreen related (new screen went in).

When you go looking theres so many things that "could" be the problem.

Bumping this thread.

Anyone had any joy with lower B pillar trim.  I need to replace my parking buzzer and presume it is still located behind here as on the Mk1.

Can I just add that if you have curtain airbags the little 'AIRBAG' tag at the top has a screw located behind it that needs to be taken out first! I presume that not all octys have this judging by the above.

Can't remember how I did it, but I didn't find removing the bottom bit too difficult other than a bit of heaving and pulling. The biggest pain is having to take the door rubber seal off enough to be able to remove enough of the plastic trim where you step over as it's all interlinked and you need to take one bit out before the next in sequence. If I remember correctly, I may have even had to take out the squabs by the rear seats and the plastic as far back as that to get it all out in order.

Yes, curtain airbags were a factory option.

Sarge.
