Ecu Removal

Featured Replies

Have just purchased an remap off ebay from ecu-evolutions, seems like they have a pretty good reputation etc, and also seen that they have put their price down to £99.

i see that martinzuk has this map, and also harrybongouk, just wondered if anyone has done a section on how to remove your ecu, cant seem to find a link.

regards mark

I'm not sure if there's a guide but it's easy enough.

Remove the wipers and then the scuttle and you'll see the ECU under there. I can't remember if you need to remove the wiper linkage to get it out, but even if you do it's only 3 screws.

ive got no issues getting the wiper panel off etc, did this when i ran my boost gauge cable thorough the bulkhead, just wondered if anyone had a picture maybe with the ecu pointed out so i know im 100%

You sort of can't miss it tbh.

Its a big black box right in front of you.

And it can be slid out easy if you wedge up the panel with a big hammer :D

dont forget to bend the little tag on the right out of the way. Chris offered to send me instructions on removal harrybongo posted them up somewhere on here.

Hope you are gonna post up the results mate.May consider one of these remaps in the new year and would value your opinion of them

Cheers

Thats where I had mine remapped too. I sent my ECU. I could not get the wipers off so ended up removing all the scuttle panel screws and just lifting it up as far as it would go to expose the ECU, which is in the center(can't miss it) Then as Martziniuk explained, bend the ECU retaining tabs out (I did this both sides) so the ECU can be slide out (may need a little persuasion as the ECU is held in quite tight) Before you slide it out unplug the main plug to the ECU by pulling the metal lever (or plastic can't remember now) on one side to allow the plug to be pulled off. Job done. I sprayed WD40 on the runners when I refitted the ECU to make removal easier next time.

I thought you got yours mapped with the other Ebay seller ecu_tune, AKA Jason @ More-bhp?

Hey Martin, you know what you are right! Know more about my car than me. :eek:ecu-evolutions was the first contact, but indeed later went with ECU_Tune

noticed yesterday when i was fitting my tip that i have a split hose coming from what i assume is the crankcase, its the hose leading from the top of the engine to the attatchment behind the dv on the tip.

can anyone shed any light? was also thinkin that since i will have had my ecu out that i will need to do a throttle body alignment? so might as well clean them while im at it. only issue is i have no vag-com

EDIT: and while im under the bonnet i might as well clean the MAF as well

VAG-Com is not essential after cleaning the throttle body, although I would recommend it. The engine will run like a bag of spanners whilst the ECU performs adaption.

It sounds like the crankcase breather hose is split - this is a common problem.

Unless you feel the MAF is faulty then don't try and clean it. The MAF is very easily damaged. I have cleaned them in the past, but this is usually only a temporary measure.

Try and find a member with VAG-Com. You can check the MAF and do the TB adaption at the same time.

its hunting a bit and runnin fast from cold, so thats why i was thinkin about cleaning the MAF, but maybe this breather hose might help that a little

The hunting at cold will be due in part at least to the split hose - common problem.
