Question is do I leave her until she blows ???

Or slip in the replacement now ???:D:D

Replace now. Once they start they fail fast.

I'd check the cable 1st if I was you, I assume it's a sata drive?

You're not running the intel raid software under windows are you?

If so what version of the software are you running?

Yes it's version 8.6

I think 8.6 is a good version, but there was a version that I saw just drop perfectly good drives over and over for no obvious reason.

Worth checking you have the latest version.

Personally if one has gone I'd get a new disk as you tend to find that discs sat next to each other will have had similar exposure and die at a similar time. All IMHO of course. Obvious comment of make sure you've got your backup up to date.

Cheers

I got a nice big 750 gb Samsung F1 drive too replace the raid array with. I was only experimenting with the raid as I aquired another drive the same as my old one, so I had a blast. The drive that is on the blink is about 5-6 years old iirc, so it was time for an upgrade anyway, so I ain't that bothered. :D:D:D

The 750 spinpoint F1's are nice, run a couple of them in RAID1 myself :)

Has anyone else had problems with SATA cables? I've had a few cases where the PC has crashed or not booted and traced the problem to the SATA cable not being sufficiently engaged on the back of the hard drive.

It works fine after being pushed back on firmly, but wondered whether it's down to poor quality cables or a design fault with the connectors?

Mine dropped one of my stripped drives, reset it and it works fine! :)

The connector design is IMHO fine.

Before you write it off do a zero's on it to full wipe it, you might find the drive itself is ok, all after setting up the 750 of course.:D

Some appear tighter than others.

The 750 is in a running a nice fresh vista install, just need too tweak it to my liking now.

I'll mount the two old drives in caddy and see how there looking for spares :D
