vRS Battery not man enough?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Just lately my engine has been turning over very slowly especialy after sort jurneys, yesterday I left my side light on while parked on the road for 15 mins, when I returned my battery was flat. Luckily I was stoped pointing the right way down a hill :D

When I go back I checked a few things, im getting 14.5 ish Volts across the terminals while the engine is running so I think the alternator is functioning, I then check out the battery, i dont think its genuine item, its a Akuma 44Ah 350A. Is this the correct specification? Im going to buy a new battery tomorrow and dont want to replace like for like if its not the right one.

Thanks

Chris

Sounds like your battery has had it as it should not discharge after 15mins on side light, the cold weather also kills off batteries.

Its low on the Ah as the original one that ive taken off mine was rated at 60Ah so get a decent one, something like a Varta one on and you will be fine

i put a big ole diesel one on mine and its never missed a beat running lots of stereo equipement but sadly the battery cover thingy doesn't fit properly :(

A battery's Amp/Hour (Ah) rating refers to its discharge rate. The figure you're really looking for here is it's Cold Cranking Amps (CCA Rating). A starter motor when cranking an engine from cold can easily draw anywhere up to 400 amps for a diesel, and 200 or more for a petrol. It's false economy to buy a battery that's not big enough for the job........
