vRS turbo noise (not whistle!)

Featured Replies

I’ve had my ’04 Fabia vRS since February this year. Love it to bits but I think, at 65k miles, it might be reaching the point where things need replacing! This weekend it developed a kind of “whooshing” sound accompanying the turbo kicking-in, like someone going “Shhhhhhhhhhhhh” really loudly. This stops when I back off the accelerator, so is definitely engine speed/turbo-related. It has alsways whistled since I've had it, which i quite like, but the whosshing noise is new. It doesn’t seem to affect acceleration too much but just doesn’t feel or sound right. I will probably take it in to the garage for a look, but won’t be able to do this for a couple of weeks and have some miles to cover in the meantime, unless of course there is something drastically wrong…… Any thoughts, anyone?

Boost leak on the intercooler pipes maybe.... check for oil deposits / leaks on the joins in the plastic intercooler hoses

welcome to briskoda, hope you get the problem sorted and enjoy the car.

Thanks for the welcome messages, and the tips. The local garage couldn't see any obvious leaks this morning (but then the turbo doesn't kick-in when revving at a standstill). The pipework is dirty/sooty, which apparently isn't normal, but it's going back in on Tuesday for a more detailed look. Fingers crossed it isn't anything too serious!
