Had a slipping drive belt so i bought a new one and a new tensioner, fitted them both and the noise went away for a week, but now its back again only when the car starts from cold for about 30 seconds then goes away again.

Any ideas???

Its probably just a cold belt, both my VRS and Astra diesel do it for about 30 secs in the winter, summer its fine. The rubber is harder when really cold.

Dried powdered chalk or baby powder will do just as well.......

I read that somewhere too, been trying to steal the baby powder from the house - no chance!!!

Did you check that the alternator is not starting to sieze? This what happened to me, the freewheel clutch was siezed and the bearings were partially siezed. Did'nt make noise all the time and not always when starting from cold, and never once on the move and warmed up. The thing about cold belt is a bit of a red herring - all winter delivered cars would do it!!

Fixed, stole the baby powder from the house, not looked back since.

I actually took apart the alternator checked bearings they were fine obviously, ah well it eliminated that problem
