Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a good garage that will put a clutch in my Octavia for me? Went to the guy who i normally use and was told that its not a job he would take on

Doesnt have to be a specialist but anyone who is competent as mum and dad are in oz and i seam to be working lates until xmas so ideally has to be localish

Cheers

Matt

Hi Mate

Is it one with a single mass flywheel?

I know my nephew had one fitted in our little village near Worksop , is that any goo?

Sarah

Volkstek in Dronfield may be a good bet. We've had our Fabia serviced there at a good price and they have also done odds and sods like handbrake cables and calipers. They are VW group specialists, came across as knowledgable and, on the basis of our experience I'd recommend them.

Matt, my mate Adam has a garage near morrisons at ecclesfield, and he is a good lad and reasonably priced. Give me a shout if you want his number. Alternatively how about independent cars on nether lane ecclesfield, used them a few times and they are also good. Cheers, Damo

Thanks for the help guys.

Sarah its the standard dual mass one so i think this is why the bloke i normally go to has said no to it.

Damo i totally forgot about independent car as well as its some where i never go past. If you could also PM me your mates number ill give him a shout for a price.

pm sent

I bought a gearbox from a place in Sheffield yesterday call Mr Gearbox, and all they do all day is clutches and gearboxes!

They were very friendly, and they seemed to know what they were doing, and most of all were reasonably priced!

Thanks for that Chris.

Another hat to throw into the mix

Ive used Mr Gearbox before and they were very good and competitive on price but it wasnt in the last 12 months so cant comment based on a recent experienc. I know a lot of the independents use them as out workers too.

Well in the end i went for none of them and im using the one near where the father in law works as he can nip in, pay for it and move it if i cant get out of work so its going to the Northern Stag garage in Rotherham so will let you all know what they are like and more importantly the cost of it.

Think with all the messing about i should have just called in sick and gone some where like Awesome to have it done  Oh well

Would this happen to be LC Motors at all?

Used them with my astra, timing belt and replacing the clutch.

No mate, but I think I know the one your referring to, if its in the same units as Adam's, its called Excelsior Works

Never heard of them, there is a specialist on a small paddock opposite Thule at barbot hall industrial estate also.

Not any experience with them, but hoping not to have to. The vauxhall always use to keep going wrong :P

Well i got it sorted in the end and was rather reasonable at £288 all in so cant complain really.

Just have to reconnect my oil pressure sensor that they pulled off though :(

Just as a quick update apparently i got told by LC Motors today they only supply parts now, so questioned about getting hold of a part to be told they dont do that either.

I got rather confused and upset, and said thank you and put the phone down before ranting down the phone.

JBS auto designs in Chesterfield is always a good one, although they are pretty expensive these days.

Found out the company name of the one on barbot hall its called, AT Auto's.

Although i didn't take my car down to them myself, they'd found the cause of the problem within a hour (melted vanes on the turbo).

Think i need to get a replacement coolant temp sensor fitted, as i think this maybe the cause of it melting things.

After my last experience with them id rather let the apprentice at Quick Fit do it but thanks for mentioning them to others
