Confirm engine spec

Featured Replies

Is there anyway to confirm that the engine under the hood is exactly the one I had ordered? Besides all the paperwork is there any way you can actually confirm - reading a hardware tag or somewhere in MFD settings. Just curious.

And to preempt jcblink - making noise like a bag of spanners is necessary but not sufficient proof :D

if its a bag of spanners then its PD engine. if its a box of spanners lined with silk then its the CR . if its just pure silk then it must be a petrol !!

and its lincs by the way not links !!

Oops! Sorry my bad. No that still doesn't answer my question :)

i know but i havent got an answer and you threw me the bait so i took it !!!:rofl:

the chassis number and engine number will cross ref on the skoda computer (but then i guess the info is only as good as the info put on the computer which is not necessarily correct !)

are you having concerns that you have the wrong engine ?

On the MKI the engine code is on the cambelt cover, i assume yours will be as well?

Yeah I was pretty much sure you will take it :D

No concerns - the question just popped up in my mind when I was playing with Maxidot - for no particular reason. I couldn't find a satisfactory answer, hence this thread.

Aren't the first 3 digits of the engine serial number also the engine code (eg BPC, BWA) ?

I would have thought that in the service book or in the sticker in the boot there is a KW notice, ie the sticker says the engine number and power in KW.

Presumably you know if it is diesel or petrol and then the KW rating you can convert to bhp and that way you know the engine...

Thats how I would check anyway, this is a useful tip if buying any second hand vw group diesel as there are so many varients and the car dealer is likely to assume it to be more powerful than it is.

Hope this helps
